Post by John Guscott »

To all Lakewood Public Library patrons, please note the following information below:

The recent adjustments in policy, along with the increases in fees, are necessary for us to not only sustain our current operation and extensive catalog, but to further enhance our growth and development as we move into the future.

We sincerely appreciate the ongoing support from our patrons.

* Late fees for DVDs will increase to 50¢ a day.

* Late fees for all other materials will increase to 10¢ a day.

* The maximum fine for a single item will increase to $3.00.

* Cards with fees of $10.00 will be blocked immediately.

* Cards with billed items will be blocked.

* There will be a $2.00 charge for replacement Library cards.

* Patrons will be charged $5.00 for lost or damaged DVD, CD and VHS cases.

* Patrons will be charged $10.00 for lost or damaged audio book cases.

* The total limit of check outs will be set at 50.

* The DVD check out limit will be raised from 7 to 10.

Saw the signs yesterday. Hopefully this will force me (and the kids) to be better at return things on time. I do think all the new policies are really reasonable.

These fees and policies are not much different from the county library policies. Considering the cost of things today the library is still the best deal in town.

Just to be clear, my post wasn't meant as a complaint, just an observation. I'm exceedingly proud of Lakewood's library and these fines look totally reasonable to me.
