This is the second branch they have taken down. They are going to kill this tree by winter.

We got a note that our bins were too close to parked cars. The road widens at our house, and we basically have no treelawn. What am I supposed to do? Doesn't everyone have cars parked in front of their bins? How do they even empty them?

I was mistaken. That browned leaf branch you see is NOT the first one they took down. My husband cut that one down when it happened. It was a huge branch that was hanging on by a splinter.

Thing is, those things are tough to push IN the grass. Ours is not even very filled and it was tough. We have a little sidewalk at the treelawn which was normally where I park it. Someone suggested I put it IN the driveway, but we share a driveway with our next door neighbors and it really isnt wide enough for one or two cans to sit there.

I suspect even IF we did that, the truck has to still stick very close to the curb to pick up the cans so they would still clip the tree. This tree isnt even that big and my street certainly isnt one of the most treed in Lakewood. I can't even imagine the carnage that may be occuring on other streets. These trees are one of Lakewood's most valuable assets too. I was struck last night by this. I was on a coworker's roof deck on one of the towers at Edgewater. Despite Lakewood being so densely populated and so many houses, you cannot see them because we are covered in trees. It is amazing, actually.

I might have to put it right next to the 'No Parking' you see in the pic above and see how they like that.

Broken tree limbs, parking issues, struggling to push the can... are but a few of the many consequences of the Mayor doing away with back yard pick up.

The shinny new trucks are already breaking down and needing maintenance, the division has laid off 6 workers, one of the management positions has already been abandoned by one man and is rumored to be opening again as the 2nd manager is looking to get out. ( Job posted for his position) and finally a division which ran smooth with over-time accruing only for holidays now see's over time daily. Add in more trips to the various dumps, the struggle it will be to get these behemoth trash bins to the street in the winter..ect, ect... Yes there are indeed consequences for the actions of this Mayor.

But "unanticipated"?... Hardly.
