She's positioning herself to make money on the speaking circuit for a year or two. Then, 2011? A run for president. God help us all.
I'd like to believe that she is actually 'sick of politics' and will fade away quickly and quietly, but she does not appear to be the type that would do that.

I think that she got caught with her hand in the cookie jar, that's why she timed her announcement, late in the day, the day before the holiday weekend.
Her speech was a hot mess.

Ultimately, the only way we have to judge the mind, judgment, logic, and method of thinking is to listen to the spoken word of an individual.
How many times have you listened to someone and reacted with a "jaw dropping" this person is nuts?
That has been the situation from the moment Gov. Palin stepped on the national stage.
Her announcement of her resignation, regardless of it's reasons, was yet another example of a rambling, shambling mismash of incoherent thoughts punctuated by a few popular words and phrases.
Her continuing presence on the national scene only reminds us of the most UnAmerican act of a presidential candidate, the selection of the most unqualified person for Vice President in the nation's history.

WOW... she is insane... You can not make this stuff up.

Van Flein wrote that "we will be exploring legal options this week to address such defamation." In an interview, Van Flein said it's not clear what those options might be. His letter cites the freedom of speech clause in the Alaska Constitution, and its statement that "every person may freely speak, write, and publish on all subjects, being responsible for the abuse of that right."
Anchorage attorney Peter Maassen, who last fall successfully defended legislators sued in an effort to stop the "Troopergate" investigation of the governor, said Van Flein would have an extremely hard time winning any legal action.
"If (Palin) is actually a public figure, which clearly she is, there has to be actual malice involved, in my understanding of defamation law. That would be very hard to prove. ... It's a very, very high bar if it is a public figure," he said.

I've had that reaction that a few times. Yet, surprisingly, that person is still our Representative.

Her resignation speech sounds as though she is reading from a teleprompter of some kind.

Governor Palin said, "I am doing what's best for Alaska."
Finally, Governor Palin and I agree on something.

"I think on a national level your department of law there in the White House would look at some of the things that we've been charged with and automatically throw them out."
-- Sarah Palin, on how she would handle ethics complaints if she were in the White House
Is there a Department of Law? in/near the White House? that oversees Alaska State Troopers? It has been a few years since the high school civics class.

I don't know which is worse, the fact she thinks there is a "Department of Law" or that she thinks the White House can summarily stop people from criticizing them. I think the latter.

To be fair, Jerry, she wasn't talking about criticism, she was talking about outright investigations and charges of illegal behavior. To that end, she's got a bit of a point, it does seem that in recent years there's been a bubble around the Executive branch keeping them away from the heat of lawsuits.
As for what the actual mechanism is that shields the President from ethics investigations, well-founded or frivolous, that would be a compliant and docile Senate.

She was running for the vice presidency... So by your logic she would not be shielded because every one knows that the vice president is not part of the executive branch.

However, I must say those fishing bibs are every bit as stylish as what you can find down in the Valley.
