IHOP
I drove by the IHOP on Detroit today, and see that the windows are all covered with white plastic sheets, and the signs are also covered in brown plastic ... it would appear that IHOP is now closed ... anyone have any info on that? It seemed to be doing well, judging from the cars in the parking lot I saw every time I went by.

Yes I heard it was closed for business. Personally I have never eaten there.

Re: IHOP
And when in the world are Panera and Five Guys supposed to come to Lakewood? Seems as though all these big plans were made and nothing came of it. Shame now that IHOP closed as I'm sure this doesn't bode well for other potential chains.

Can't speak for Panera, but it looks like work has begun at the Five Guys space this week.

Most of the time, when construction is not going on right now, you cannot count on the business appearing. It means that they can't get capital for start-up costs.

While that is true 5 Guys, has a different story. They are committed to Malls. Malls have
deadlines for opening up. Here in Lakewood them own the space, as arraigned by the
city of Lakewood, not LA. So they are building out at a much slower rate.
Of course LakewoodAlive could tell you that if they were not hiding from the voting, tax
paying public in the "friends" of Facebook account where they have to answer to no one.
Time they get accountable.

The story I was told by one of the principles at 5 Guys. Was they were committed to
opening in 7 malls around the state. The way most malls work is rent with a percentage
of the profits. When you sign a lease, they give you a minimum amount of time
to get open and running.
5 Guys were pushing ahead with Lakewood, but their main push was to honor
the contracts they had with malls. That building would be happening, but they did not
want the penalities of opening late at the malls.
5 Guys were brought in through the city of Lakewood. At least according too two officials
when asked about the "award" Jay Foran's group Team Neo awarded to Jay's CDC group
for reaching out to minorities. All smoke and mirrors. 5 Guys are committed to Lakewood,
because Nate Kelly and The Mayor worked hard to land the deal.
My questions is how much does this magic act cost the tax payers. Two police? Meals on
Wheels for seniors? Backyard waste pick-up. What have we traded for cornhole?

Re: IHOP
I do not know who you talked to but 5 Guys is made up of different people who franchise. The company building in Lakewood is Wholesome Burgers. He/they are one of the biggest franchisers of 5 Guys, especially in this region, and they are one of the most successful. WB bought the entire building so yes, they probably weren't on the same time crunch as leasing in a space which they didn't own. You post just made no sense, which is why I asked for translation.
As far as the awards and accolades received for bringing this minority owned business to Lakewood, I have no clue (and don't care to). I don't get any of that. You are all over the map on this one, though. Cornhole? Meals on wheels? I feel like I need a decoder ring to read your posts anymore.

The decoders are being handed out at the parade tomorrow. Supplies are limited. Ovaltine not included.
