Inquiring Minds Want To Know

Post by sharon kinsella »

Just finished reading the online Observer for 7/01/09. Good job.

I do have a question, however. Why are there three articles about one event? Three separate article about the Street Walk event seems redundant. One of the things that I learned from the good sisters at St. Augustine Academy, back in the stone ages, was that repetition is the lowest form emphasis. It became irritating and made me question why anyone felt there was a need to smack readers over the head with the event.

It would have been much more effective to combine the articles and credit all three writers.

In addition, I counted four articles talking about LakewoodAlive.

Is the paper now going to be the official instrument for LakewoodAlive?

The Lakewood Observer is a vehicle for everyone in Lakewood. It is not owned
by any single group, though I am sure that LEAF and MAMA will get special
attention as their presidents now have ownership of the paper.

The pledge remains the same, put it up, take ownership of it. Everything will be run,
either in print or online based on space available and if the item is time sensitive.
These rules can be seen online or are available to anyone requesting them.

The new owners of this project have agreed that old rules will continue to apply.

With the three stories from LakewoodAlive if it is a problem with this is, then it is on me.
This was my last time as publisher though I will stay on as a consultant for as
long as needed. That time will be very limited as we are launching new papers all
summer, I am writing a book about the experience, working on TV projects, and
marketing a new invention I recieved the patent on.

I will also be writing for the Lakewood Observer, as a resident. I only wrote 4 stories
in 5 years. Now that I have stepped down I want to know how many things work,
and I know you and others feel the same. Example how much does the city spend
on something like The Cornhole Tournament. How much are the banners, police, access,
etc. How much goes to charity etc. As these are public institutions I feel they need
and want oversight from the tax payers.

If you have any questions please post them here, you know I love to answer and
really enjoy kicking it with you. You are one of the few who can really put it up.

As always thanks for the post, the effort and your participation.

peace

Sharon and Jim--- I totally enjoyed this issue of the LO. I read, and understood the intentions of the new crew at the top. And, I wholeheartedly support their efforts. If they'll agree, maybe Gary Rice and I will submit occasional articles of community interest.
Regardless, the one impression that I was left with was the imperative of letting everyone in on the action!
Let's keep it going!

You are the one person that had the most to complain about. This message gives me hope
for a bright even better future for the Lakewood Observer and the new publisher(s). You
were the one slapped the hardest wrongly by my crew. For that I have always been sorry,
and I hope you have always known that. Your writing was always spot on, carrying your
unique stance on city hall and the world we call Lakewood.

I hope to read you articles again very soon.

standard for citizen journalism."
