Meet the Trucks - this weekend at Lakewood Park
This is a great event, one of Lakewood's best, I hope to see everyone there.

From the front page:

The City of Lakewood and the Lakewood Early Childhood PTA invite you to attend the 4th Annual Meet the Trucks on Saturday, June 6, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Lakewood Park, 14532 Lake Avenue. Come see, touch and explore the City’s fine fleet of trucks and vehicles.
Vehicles on display will include an aerial truck, dump truck, fire truck, ambulance, police car, police motorcycle, SWAT vehicles, U.S. Postal Service Truck, MetroParks Nature Tracks Bus and more. In addition, the Lakewood Early Childhood PTA will offer crafts, face painting, a D.J., bounce houses, Jungle Bob, a balloon artist and much more. Refreshment will be available.
Quality bike and multi-purpose helmets will be available for purchase while supplies last. Lakewood Hospital will offer an “Ask A Doc” booth and The Cleveland Safe Kids Coalition will be providing car seat safety checks. The Burning River Roller Derby Girls will perform at the skate park and Spin Bike Shop of Lakewood will offer a bike repair station. There will a miniature safety town staffed by the Lakewood Recreation Department.
Attendees are asked to bring a canned good which will be donated to the Lakewood Christian Service Center, the City’s food bank.
The following organizations helped to sponsor this event: Lakewood Hospital, Training by Liz, Cliff Tower’s Marathon, The Kiwanis Club of Lakewood and Donatos.

I'm sure it was a great event, but was it really necessary to purchase & display the pole banners? Who paid for them, the city or LECPTA? Either way, I think the money could have been better spent elsewhere. The non-profit organization I work for looked into getting them for their 20th anniversary celebration, and they were pretty expensive, so they opted not to. Why spend the money on that for a one day event??

I didn't really look closely at them, but if they are generic and can be used again next year (like "MEET the TRUCKS- FIRST WEEKEND IN JUNE"), I would have no problem with this.

The signs were generic signs so they can be used year after year just like the signs for the art festival and community festival. Meet the trucks is such and awesome event advertising it is a good thing.

Agreed, I had as much fun as the kids climbing in an out of the trucks.
A very good event to keep Lakewood in the center of fun in the summer. My wife had friends come from as far as Elyria to meet the trucks. Just a wonderful time for all. Thanks again to all who make it happen !!

Dee, I think they used all the money they spent very economically. The event has been and still is a huge success. Something could be learned from how well they capture all aspects of the crowd, the community, and especially the kids.
I think all the advertising definately has enhanced the ability to capture such a large crowd (I'm guessing 4,000 to 5,000 highly entertained kids, parents, grandparents, and families). The event has grown immensly in the past four years, engaging other large companies to donate their goods and services to help create such an extraordinary day.
Great job Julie, the LECPTA, and the founding members of Lakewood's Meet the Trucks.
I'm sure the City did not pay for the advertising but they will love to glow in the event's praise.
Keep it up Lakewood. Family and Community is at its best at Meet the Trucks!
