The other day I was wondering after seeing something, who insures Lakewood
or do they insure themselves as many cities do?
If someone gets hurt on the job is it insurance, or workman's comp?
And do they insure against this form of injury.

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice.
I had guys that were kicking cans out of the truck and throwing them on lawns on my street. Now that I see this, I wish I snapped a photo.
How do I top this? No picture of any rock star would be able to compete with such wonderful photography.

Jim:
I cannot recall who insured Lakewood when I was on Council, but it was interesting that we spent several thousand on an insurance consultant who ultimately advised on the appropriate coverage. Lakewood does not rely upon independent agents to solicit coverage. The coverage is placed for bid. This is not the most competitive way to obtain insurance, since the independent agency system drives agent loyalty to the customer rather than the insurer.
The same answer, I believe, applies to the health insurance plan. (Which, in fact, was competitive, if not gold-plated). As for Worker's Compensation, Lakewood, if I am not mistaken, was self-insured, perhaps through a pooled risk government program.
Since I work in the insurance industry, I found the insurance issues to be of interest. It would make for a nice article in the Observer!
