Mr. Sage, I have no plans to run for office at the present time.

Ed, feel free to substantiate as you like. I have called several Catholics who are active in the community and they can recall no such remarks. All they recall is that most of my biggest supporters are Catholic and that I have a record of supporting LCA while on Council.

What is really being called into question these days is the timeline and your forthrightness with the St. James community regarding the church closing situation.

LCA (Lakewood Catholic Academy, unless he is talking about Lakewood City Academy) is the grade school that sits on the site of the old St. Augustine High School. The school has about 600 students and is an important school choice for many people living in Lakewood.

I am not really sure where you are going with this. At the time I made the post to Mr. Sage, I was not running for office. I held petitions and was collecting signatures for both City Council and the School Board. I was considering which office to seek. I had not filed petitions, created literature, designed walking plans, or arranged fundraisers. Therefore, I was not running. Much like when you circulated petitions to run for mayor in 2007 and chose not to file them.

I am sure the reason this post has come about is because you got your hands on an LRO Times and it said I am running for Council. I have been indecisive for weeks, but at the time thought I had come to a decision. So that is what we put in print, but it may not be entirely correct. So if you want to split hairs, I thought that was the right thing to do at the time. I am not so sure now. I will make a decision in the future. When I make a decision it will be announced formally in the mainstream press. Thanks for your interest.

Mr. DeVito- I supported several religious entities during my tenure on Council, as do ALL Council members. This is mostly done by Resolution. In the case of Lakewood Catholic Academy, you could interpret my support as the application of free market principles if it makes you feel better. For example, they needed some signs changed and had crossing guard issues, etc. The key was not to stand in the way of the creation of a successful entity that could attract residents or customers to the City. As a Council we approved other Resolutions that congratulated churches on anniversaries and achievements. The Constitution does not separate church and state under any and all circumstances, it merely says we may not establish a state religion (ie; designate a preference) nor support one over another.

I didn't quite understand the difference between collecting signatures and actually running for office. You have to collect signatures to run for office don't you?

Jim S., I am collecting signatures on petitions to run for office if I decide to do so. Actually running for an office requires you to file those petitions and to begin to campaign. I will issue a press release when I begin my campaign and will ensure that it is posted here.

Last time, when Ken and Jim dragged me along to one of them, I had an angry/intoxicated supporter grab me around the neck because Gordon Brumm writes "leftist bull$@&^".

This is hilarious. Oh how time has changed perception.

Come on we had fun. Jennifer Scott has NEVER thrown a bad party.
Remember she planned the Bowling Party and the massive LO blow
out this past January. To be honest never been to a bad LRO Party
either, though I am not a regular attendee.

As far as being choked, while I thought it was pretty funny looking across
the tent and seeing some old guy twice your size, physically wringing
your neck and shaking you. You have to realize they are basically an
angry lot, that is best not questioned on ridiculous positions. Best to
just drink your sorrows away and cry in beers.

You were there to take photos not poke tired old elephants with pointed sticks.

Please consider allowing us to take our observer status to the next level.
Why not keep a journal online as you go about making your decision whether to run and for what office?

We can be exposed as to the thought process of how one goes about planning to run. You can take us into the discussions you have with your inner circle as well. Crafting talking points, honing a theme, etc.

After all there are plenty of people who talk the talk but only a few that walk the talk. It seems that you are in the latter category.
