Missing Ball of Fur
Sometime yesterday our cat got out and is still missing. If anyone sees a rather large (read fat) grey striped (to the point that he actually has spots) tabby roaming around the Elmwood ave area of Lakewood, please pm me.
His name is Magellan, but he rarely comes when called (yes, he is in deed a cat). If there is food anywhere your house, he may come visit you.
He has been de-clawed in the front but has his hind claws.
Unfortunately, since he is an indoor cat, he does not have a collar or tags.

You name him 'Magellan' and then keep him from exploring the world?
yup, when we got him, all he did for the first couple of days was "circumnavigate" the house. He'd do a couple of laps, then take a nap, couple more laps, nap, laps, nap, laps, nap. etc.
thanks for keeping an eye out.

I do not live close to you, but I will keep my eye out. My one indoor only cat took a walk about two summers ago. He was gone for two nights. Secretly, I think he was in the bushes the whole time laughing at me while I called for him and canvassed the neighborhood. He did not have a collar on at the time either because he and my other cat were fighting and using it as leverage on each other, so I had taken them off temporarily. I was a wreck for those three days.
Anyway, he came back on the third morning and was fine. From then on, he is never without a collar with his name, my cell and INDOOR ONLY on the tag. I also immediately updated his shots which I had laxed on because they are never outside and hate the vet. Mine are also front declawed, which is worrisome when they are outside like that, but they can take care of themselves.
I am sure he will get home when he gets bored. Walk around the neighborhood with a little bit of kibble in a metal cup so he hears it clanking... he probably isnt very far! Thinking good thoughts for Magellan!

When our cat went missing, we tried walking around with a can of treats and rattling it. It didn't make him come out, but we think he was close by, as he showed up on our doorstep at 2 AM the same day. Print flyers in your neighborhood - most pets will not be all that far from their home at first. If possible, ask any neighborhood kids to keep an eye out and hand them a flyer.
Good luck

how do you add pictures? I finally got a connector for my camera, but I don't know how to post to here.
In the meantime, I've posted some on my facebook page here...

Bret, you can use the image tags (the IMG button when posting) It will make and open tag and a closing tag that you can put the URL (The web link to your picture) in.
Example...
You can get the URL to the image in a number of different places.
http://photobucket.com/ - offers an image hosting service that will provide you with said URL.
The LO's own photoblogs can also be used.
Good Luck.

For what it's worth, yesterday around 1 or 2 PM, we saw a cat that might be Magellan on Cook Ave, walking near the first house south of Clifton on the west side of Cook Ave. However, my wife looked at the Facebook pics and thinks the cat we saw was smaller, darker, and female. She may be a better cat spotter than mean, but I thought I'd let you know just in case.
But it did not have a collar, and it's belly was hanging low which I guess could mean it's chubby or perhaps pregnant.
We called out to it but it stayed away.

Good luck and don't give up hope. I have had many cats. I remember my first. I was sick with worry that he was gone. I went around the block and I was calling him. Then all of a sudden at one house, I heard a meow and he got up off the porch swing stretched and came down to see me - he apparently had been taking a little vacation.
One of my recent cats, who was neutered had a friend a few houses over. We would routinely have that cat at our house and ours at theirs. After I figured it out - I always knew where to look.
I have collars on the cats with my phone number (the pet supply store in Marc's plaza) makes them at a fairly reasonable price. I assume it would help if the animal shelter picked them up. But so far, no one has ever used them. But it does make me feel better.
Remember this is a cat, not a dog. They are brave little explorers and can take care of themselves for a little while.
Let us know as soon as you get him back.
