But how are we going to have a civilian national security force if he's going to take away all of our guns! :D

militias

Post by ryan costa »

The "well regulated militias" provision of the Constitution was much more relevant in the early decades of the USA. After winning the Northwest Territories from Britain it became necessary to settle the Northwest Territories. (it wasn't spreading land wealth around: socialism hadn't really been invented yet) Anglophobia was a hot-button issue between the war for independence and the end of the war of 1812.(large plantation owners frequently owed british and scottish merchants a lot of money).

Settlers were plead with or harangued into volunteering for the local militia. most of the reports I've come across indicate many of them were not very formal or well funded. you could be commissioned as an officer just by coming from the right family or owning a successful small business.

Today militias or temporary deputies would probably be cheaper than adding more police. They could patrol the streets. There are no more Anglos inciting the native tribes against us. But there are plenty of crackheads, white trash, gang bangers, and belligerent streetards to contend with. guns should be weapons of last resort. truncheons and quarterstaffs will have to do for most confrontations.
