somalia pirates

some big ships from the U.S. Navy and Russian navy are patrolling Somalia.

Somalia is a popular place for pirates to pirate-up cargo ships.

This seems kind of capital-intensive for dealing with pirates. Cargo ships should carry their own automatic rifles. It isn't easy to sneak up on people in the ocean. maybe the cargo ships should pay 1 or 2 people to stand on the deck of the ship and look for pirates.

I agree that the ships that travel channels prone to pirates should carry some kind of protection. However I will say the I think the US needs to get out of wars and return to being the police of the world. This is the kind of thing that raises our standing in the international community. Man could we use some of that.

it does not seem so cost effective to send warships to do this. much smaller boats would probably work.

I agree. However the US has not had a good trac record with being cost effective. It would have been much more fiscally responsible to send an elite bunch of commands to kill bin laden. As opposed to invading 2 countries.
