Republicans are worried about possible registration fraud, I am more worried about voting fraud. I love the line that these are isolated problems, what are the odds of that? The reason they are probably isolated is most people don't pay that close of attention. They trust that when they vote for their candidate that the machine casts that vote. With the electronic machines I checked the paper each time but many of my friends didn't even realize the paper was their. I just hope this isn't a wide spread problem.

Are they running Windows Vista?
Seriously though, 6 out of a thousand doesn’t sound like application error let alone fraud. More like Mr and Mrs Magoo need to pay attention – a.k.a user error
Dirty tricks Sharon? c'mon you can't have it both ways.

Charlie - It's pretty hard to vote the whole wrong ticket. It's either a machine glitch or someone has programmed something wrong in it. Could be a number of things.
You and I both know, if the officials were Democrats you would be all over that.
Remember 2004 in Ohio?
Yeah, I don't trust what's going on in W. Virginia.

A friend of mine worked on the local Diebold machine in order to report on its safety and he said that yes, it runs about as safe as a home computer. Seriously. A company that makes super secure ATM machines goes and creates the holiest (and by that I mean full of holes) software and hardware package you can imagine for the most important aspect of our democracies: elections. So the Vista thing isn't far off...in fact, I think it just might be a Vista machine. Scary.

I watched this again last night on Showtime, it is very startling, very real, and a very big problem.

Interesting video. This looks like the guy is somewhat defensive about it saying, "see it doesn't automatically go from Obama to McCain" but the fact is that it does change votes, regardless. Simply recalibrating as he suggested and I noticed that it STILL didn't work correctly. It looked like it did but when he selected a "straight ticket" vote it then went from McCain to Nader, of all things.
I don't think the smell test for this points to conspiracy but it does point to machines incapable of doing consistently what they are supposed to do. You shouldn't have to call tech support to cast a ballot. I was sad when Cuyahoga County went to those paper ballots the last couple of elections but honestly I felt better about what I chose than when I use a machine, especially from first hand reports I have heard about them.
