Jennifer, they cannot hear you...
Close-minded: Intolerant of the beliefs and opinions of others; stubbornly unreceptive to new ideas.
You've got to be kidding me. You just described the republican platform.

Close-minded is killing new regualtions for Fannie and Freddie in a committee meeting because a republican suggested it... and where did that get us????
Since this is the "nice thread" I want to make 3 points.
1) Jennifer if I remember correctly, you adopted a special needs kitten. I thought that showed amazing compassion. While I have some mixed emotions about abortion, one thing I do know is that we need much more compassion towards the people who do have children when it is difficult.
2) General Wesley Clark one of my heros said basically the same thing as your brother, he fought hard so that we would have freedom - including the freedom to protest and the freedom of speech.
3) Maybe it isnt' the best way to protect your baby against germs, but I had my daughter in the White House, the Smithsonian, the zoo and half the other museums in DC when she was 3 weeks old. She seems okay.

I'm sure everyone here is doing what they think is right for their children.
However, my original point was that it was inappropriate to do it at a venue like that at that time of night.
Agree or don't agree, none of us is reviewed at the national level.

I received a call from a local Obama campaign representative last night. Very pleasant lady. She politely asked who I’m voting for and if I would like to help out on Obama’s campaign. I politely declined both requests. She said that she got my name from someone who thought I’d be interested in helping. Hmmm… I wonder if that was anyone here on the Deck playing a little prank? Did I mention she was polite?
I was going to sue her for defamation of character but then I realized I had no character – Charles Barkley
It certainly wasn't me, I make my calls from my home. The only problem I've had is that some of the people want to talk a lot. But, oh well.

I decided I have something nice to say. From reading an article about Sarah Palin and her various travels it is apparent that she is a mother that loves to be near her children. I commend her for spending so much time with them.
Well, let's see...something good to say about the opposite side...
I suppose first, that I'd need to determine which candidates were on the "opposite" side.
Contrary to what many might think, I would find that hard to do.
I think they're all on my side.
Don't get me wrong. I've got a pretty good idea right now how I'll vote.
But that's not the point.
When I cast that ballot, whenever I cast any ballot, there's always that last second moment...
...the moment of truth.
...where that vote can, and at times, HAS changed for me.
Of the four major candidates for office, at least three of 'em apparently have enough money that they would not have to submit themselves to the scrutiny and abuse that comes with office-seeking in our country.
But they are doing it anyway.
Bless 'em all.
Whether your prefererence runs to Mr. "this is our moment, this is our time!" or Mr. "I don't need on-the-job training", these candidates are putting everything they have on the line for all of us...yes all.
Every minute of every day, too.
Whether you prefer that spunky moose-hunting, designer-dressed, lipstick-smackin' lady from the Far North, or that train-ridin', no-nonsense, blue-collar lovin', tell-it-like-it-is guy from Scranton, both of them are out there every day for a purpose bigger than themselves...and that purpose is you.
While we're slingin' all that party-line propaganda stuff all over the 'Deck, we tend to forget that these are four very real people, and all four of them are out there for...you.
As was Dennis, Hillary, Ron, and the rest of 'em.
The day after the election, I suspect that about half of this counrty will be bitterly upset. They will weep, wail, and gnash teeth, as the Good Book has written so long ago.
That's too bad, 'cause I suspect these 4 candidates are wise enough to already know something that the rest of us need to learn.
Whoever wins on November 4th....we all win.
