The RNC paid for Palin’s gear, not the McCain campaign. To my knowledge, neither the DNC nor the RNC is subsidized by our tax dollars. So, unless you gave to the RNC, you didn’t help pay for it.

Both candidates, including VPs, have attempted to paint themselves as ‘real’ Americans (humble beginnings, hard working, family men/women, yada, yada, yada). This revelation of spending 150k by the RNC for the Palin fashion show should not come as a shock to many. Do you remember how the press mocked Hillary for the clothes she wore? Remember the KFC Hillary Special joke? Or have you blocked that from your selective memory? I’m not defending the expense, as it is excessive, but if Palin had wore the same outfit more than once during a two week period, she would have been crucified by the media, not to mention here on the Deck. Are men judged differently? Can anyone say ‘double standard’? You betcha

There are many organizations out there who accept ‘gently worn’ clothes to help all kinds of low-income or otherwise needy women get back on track. Many of these women don’t have the attire needed to make a good first impression during a job interview. A little confidence goes along way. I would be shocked if the RNC said they weren’t donating them. Hopefully, they go to a worthwhile cause.

Incidentally, how many people out there have a job where professional dress is required? Do you buy your professional attire from Walmart? Have you ever complimented someone on their tie and they said, “thanks, I got it at Walmartâ€

Actually Charlie in the past I have bought ties from Walmart and dress shirts also for my husband. He doesn't wear a dress shirt or tie to work very often anymore. We usually buy his dress clothes from Kohl's when they are on clearance. Target and Wal-Mart both have nice professional clothing for woman. Working families have to make do and worrying about labels doesn't pay the bills. I have seen photos of Sarah before the make over, she looked very professional. And I fail to see how buying Trig an expensive romper and matching hat makes Palin a better vp candidate. The money wasn't just spent on making over her, it was also spent to make over the entire family. Listen working class American families don't shop at Neiman Marcus, they buy their clothes from thrift stores (half pice Mondays at Unique), stores like Target and Wal-Mart, outlet stores and even the clearance racks at department stores. It's just insulting to tell us she is just like us, when she isn't.

Don’t forget that Michele Obama wore a $900 and $1,500 dresses at the dem convention. How much was spent on Obama’s daughters clothes? Barak himself wears $1,500 suits all the time. Don’t they paint themselves as ‘working class Americans’? Are you as equally insulted by this?

Show me where the DNC paid for clothing for the Obama family. I believe the Obamas do the same thing the McCains do and buy their own clothing.

And no Obama says things like he doesn't mind paying higher taxes because he is better off than the average person financially. He isn't saying he is "joe six-pack". He says he understands the middle class and he is grateful that he has had the opportunities to succeed.

This is about the McCain camp painting Palin as one of us, as a member of the working middle class, but even if she is by spending $150,000 on clothing in 6 weeks tells the American people that middle class clothing isn't good enough for the Republican Party. The dress Palin up like a celebrity, sounds a bit elitist but what do I know I am just part of the lowly middle class with my lowly affordable wardrobe. I guess that's the message they want to give, you aren't good enough.

We could agrue about how many suits Barak owns @ 1500 a pop or whether Michelle's fancy (3 or 4) convention dresses equate. But why bother? It's unimportant. We're all just jealous that she got to spend in two weeks what most of us won't spend in a lifetime on clothing.

Danielle, I didn’t say the DNC paid for the Obama’s gear. Anyway, as Jeff points out, it doesn’t matter who paid for the clothes. Truthfully, I’m not insulted by either side’s impersonation of working class Americans. It’s part of the vote pandering game that both sides do.

Palin was one of us before she became a high profile candidate. Now the RNC feels she has to dress up to the part. Most likely to avoid the Hillary type criticism of her wardrobe. Again, double standard as men don’t have to answer to the fashion police.

Frankly, I don’t care what any candidate wears. I don’t think any less or more of a person by the clothes they wear.
