On another thread, Jeff Endress said that if Sara Palin had to be the parliamentarian for the Senate that Robert's Rules would go out the window.

I've been on boards and committees that were run by Robert's Rules and sometimes it was pretty odd.

Are Robert's Rules archaic or are they timeless?

The problem I have with Robert's Rules is the ability of a group to cut and run due to the fact that a call for adjournment overrules everything else. It was demonstrated by council in the meeting where they attacked Seelie while he was out of town. When the public wanted to comment on this action, the "group of four" hastily called an end to the meeting and beat it out of there like they had a colony of fire ants taking up residence in their shorts. Much to their credit, Antonio and Madigan stayed and talked to the public.

I forgot about that and I was breathing fire about the cowardice that displayed.

I have had my say with the members who did that, I hope we never see such an antic again.

isn't it Mason's Manual of Legislative Procedure that is used for legislative bodies? Roberts Rules apply to clubs and societies, correct?

so is the city still using Roberts Rules?

Yep - though they lost their Robert's stickler to the military.
