Perfect Finger Food for V.P. Debate?

Post by stephen davis »

Chef Geoff,

This is for you.

I know your cooking. I know your politics. How would you mix the two for the V.P. debate?

Three more debates, and election night, really demand sitting in front of the T.V. with something tasty, or at least something messy to throw at the screen.

Election comfort food?

This could be an opportunity for more great stories. You are too young and important to retire. Hungry political Observers count on you. Enlighten us.

Steve,

The perfect food is the food that stays down after we all drown our sorrows with hard liquor and pain killers.

So probably ribs, whether it's pig, or deer, or moose, or wolf.

Try something out of the ordinary, eh?

Here's an alternate Crab Cakes recipe:

3 cups Panko bread crumbs
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 eggs
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
2 green onions, finely chopped
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
2 pounds crab meat
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil

Mix 1 cup of the bread crumbs and the rest of the ingredients, except olive oil. Divide into 12 balls. Flatten and coat with the remainder of the bread crumbs. Fry in skillet using the olive oil, 1 tablespoon at a time.

Serve with beer or Chardonnay.

Geoff,

Actually, this might be an opportunity to totally indulge in crab. A combo platter of Alaskan King and Blue crabs might just do it.

Not that it means anything, but aren't crabs bottom feeders?

Delaware, a Blue State, has Blue Crabs and the Blue Hens. Hmmm.

...and of course, King Crabs are red.

Yes, the cracking of crab legs, picking meat from blue crabs...perfect for eating while trying to get substance from the debate.

Just as an aside, I recently saw the Alaskan Governor's "mansion" and for wahat it's worth, there were quite a few step two toys in the yard. Also enjoyed some very fine Alaskan beer. They brew it with a lot of substance, unlike their Governor.

:D Jeff--I thoroughly enjoy your deft coupling of geography with recipes!

I am personally going to be careful about the classic "spit up" comedic shtick when I choose beverages.
