Local houston news outlets are reporting that there is a "news blackout" along bolivar penninsula and other areas near galveston because they don't want the news to be getting footage of the casualties from the air.
I understand this is very sensitive, but at the same time I am not sure how I feel about this. It really should serve as a cautionary tale for those who refuse to evacuate... in essence those people are putting the first responders at risk right now and costing a lot of money. When it's you and Mother Nature head to head, she's going to win.
Have you heard this? Media blackouts in the gulf coast area?

precedent
I think, culturally, people from Galveston want to be known for dealing with hurricanes better than New Orleans. Anyone would. any cases of looting will really just be garbage picking or scavenging.
