OK I get it
While i am finally understanding that the party that has been in charge the last 8 years, 4 of those years with a majority in the house and senate, are now the agents for CHANGE in the system?
But when did the Republican become the champions of stopping global warming? gay rights? health care for all?
I am sitting here amazed, next they will say Darwin had a good theory.
wow

I would like to know where they exhumed the women speakers they have on tonight.
They gesture alike, they enunciate alike, they are buttoned up securely in their suits.
But best of all, they look left, look right, but never in the middle.
WOW, just WOW.
I have seen concrete more enthusiastic than the conventioneers there.

As the caterpillar evolves into the butterfly, so does the new republican party: Spawned from the ashes of Trotsky and left wing democrats, emerges the republican party of today. Brush aside those fiscally conservative ideas and wrap yourself in the Rovian adaptation of the King James. Never mind that most of the passages have been abridged and adapted to capture the hearts and minds of the tithing sheeple.
Rejoice for the time is near to eradicate the constitution, "it's just a god damn piece of paper" anyway. We shall give the people of the world the freedom to follow our rules and they will like it or else.
Gas prices shall drop because the supreme commander has mentioned he may drill in places yet unscathed by our ravenous appetite for oil and those on the other side of the isle will live in harmonious coexistence with our party and the chosen ones!
Never mind those constant reminders of: terror...foreclosure...terror....pandemic.....terror......hurricane.....murder....
death....terror...food shortages....starvation....terror.....They are there to lift the burden of self determination from you!. You are free and the new lightspeed cable system has 500 channels to remind you just how free you really are!
The new republicans feel your pain for they too own many homes and understand your plight from the bed they share with the democrats! It's a cozy bed and when they pull the covers over their heads it's hard to tell them apart! Our current course shall not vary lest their handlers reveal to the public their many financial and priestly indiscretions.
After all, the people shall mock and degrade each other with blind faith in a paddock of unqualified candidates that all have proven their disdain for the one thing they are sworn to defend.....the constitution.

I am watching the convention and Rudy is speaking. I found his remarks and the laughter of the audience about Obama's time as a community organizer incredibly insulting. Do they think it's funny that he took a low wage job? Do they find working with the poor in the inner cities humorous? I used to at least have some respect for Rudy but those statements and his laughter are pretty damn low.
Here is a nice article from 2007 about Barack Obama's early work. http://www.usnews.com/usnews/news/artic ... 3obama.htm
Now to me he understands "real" America.
And sorry if this is in the wrong spot, there are too many damn threads, not that I mind.

Ok another comment this time about Sarah Palin's speech. She commented that parent's of special needs children will have an ally in the white house. Then perhaps the Republicans should re-introduce the funding for autism research than President Bush vetoed. I don't believe that parents of special needs parents have had an ally in the past 8 years with republicans in charge so why should that change now? Sorry but I have a special needs child and I see what other parents go through with trying to get healthcare coverage and trying to get therapies covered and even trying to get the proper schooling for their children and I just don't think the republicans have helped much, but maybe things will change.
Oh and Sarah Palin lost any respect that I may have had for her because she also just made fun of Obama for being a community organizer. I guess real americans make fun of the things that happen in inner city america. Argh!
And with that I have had enough, I am sure I can find some other more interesting trash on television.

It was like watching a really ugly train wreck. I kept turning it off and then turning it back on again.
This is all like a Twilight Zone episode only Rod Serling would have made it much more believable.

There was one thing that McCain said that I do agree with, Sarah Palin does have a beautiful family, but I doubt too many people would disagree with him on that. Anyhow I had a hard time watching, I was like you Sharon, I kept switching the channel back and forth but honestly I hate those conventions.

I didn't like Rudy's speech at all. If he was trying to get PUMA's and Independents, he went way too far. And he talked so long he destroyed her video - which would have been all good for her. They always are.
Palin's speech was actually pretty good when she was presenting herself. I thought she delivered it very well. I actually really liked her talking about parents of special needs children having an advocate in the White House. Maybe the Republicans and Bush were against help. But I'll give her the benefit of the doubt on this one. Maybe she will go against the trend.
I think she also went too far in critizing Obama and the democrats. At some point she turned me off. I also wasn't buying the list of foreign countries that were thrown in the speech to make it look like she have foreign experience. Come on, she is a Gov. they don't do much foreign work. Regan didn't, Bush didn't, Clinton didn't. They learned.
I'm waiting to see McCain tomorrow night.

I thought Palin speech was pretty good and well Rudy was Rudy. You know the rudy that wants something, funny, charming fun. Of course we know that once he gets something...
But back to Palin, a star to be sure. She could be a bigger star that Barack, damn there goes another ad. I thought the Republicans hated stars. Damn.
What strikes me is how undifferent this group is from Republicans in office. Change? I am also struck how they speak of the last three years in third person and attack it, like they had nothing to do with it! Let's not forget, they had the house and senate before America saw what a nightmare that was.
So she does not cater to big Oil, well there is the pipeline, and now the promise of offshore drilling. Of course they are framing that like it is some great present to you and me. We are not Kuwait, we share none of the profits, we only pay for the clean-up. This is not a favor for us, or even good for America. America should cap all wells now, and bite the bullet while it is only $100 a barrel.
I was also struck by the fact that there are willing to say nearly anything to stay in office. Now I am sure Barack does the same, but as Danielle points out. Familes of special needs families will have a friend in the White House, I take that to mean someone to cry with as they think of everything they could have done with the money going to war, and energy companies instead of the families that need it.
Overall a good night for the Rs. Now let's watch as Mrs. Palin tells Mr. McCain how to run the campaign, how to spend money, and what programs she wants included. I am sure "Maverick" will be more than willing to bend and change in the wind. Look at how much he has folded this last year to the status quo in the Republican party.

Loved the speeches (except Romney).
And I saw no appreciable difference between the kind of attacks that the Repubs used against Obama, and what was said about McCain last week.
However, overall, I think the entire convention process is a complete waste of time and money.
I would rather move on directly to the debates.

I agree with you about the conventions. The amount of time and money spent on a big pep rally really turns me off, but I suppose there are always people who love parties, I'm just not one of them. Politics is big money and that will never change.

Quip about Palin via DailyKos:
You are looking at the next generation's Phyllis Schlafly.
Perfecto!
***
Implicit in McCain's agenda is a proposition:
"I'm a change from the screw-up Bush because I'm going to execute his policies competently."
I assume he'll continue to use the Chinese mastercard massively!
***
I understand people are jonesin' for a world war to start in Iran, and others want to defeat Islam; and others want to send all those mortgage suckers a few rungs down the ladder; and others want Total Information Awareness to be used to smoke out all those looking at internet porn, gambling, and reading traitorous leftwing blogs; and others can't wait to see 12 million illegal aliens marched back home; and others are damn sure the Laffer Curve and Supply Side and Trickle Down economics will work "this time around." Etc. Etc.
What are Republican political strategists good at? Suckering lots of people into thinking plutocrats love the masses! The idea that McCain/Palin are going to diminish the return on the Republican fatcat funders' investment is preposterous.
So, here we go for another round of westy rural saints vs easty urban demons. I for one can't wait for the country to get to a white minority so this nonsense will end.

Stephen-- The Republican Party of my parents (and your) generation was the party that recognized excellence and promoted meritocracy for all. Granted, it was somewhat elitist. The Democrats recognized that the path to success and influence was through education. Hence, the greatest middle class explosion of talent and American achievement worldwide in manufacturing, arts, and opportunity ever imagined in civilization.
Now, this has devolved into a President who can't speak properly, a candidate who thinks word repetition is good policy, and a potential vice presidential nominee whose ceiling in life appears to be Columbia Station.
I know this opens up a can or worms for debate, but, dammit, stupidity really f****** pisses me off.
