Burning Man festival evolves

Once upon a time you could turn your bike into a carrot, go to Burning Man and consider yourself a style maven. Since 1990, the annual, weeklong desert art festival has grown - and with it, the spectacle.

This year the sculptures reached 10 stories into the sky. Art cars are now double-decker, fur-covered buses, complete with round-the-clock blasts from actual foghorns. The old-school, pirated radio shows now stream live on the Internet. Even the dust storm of 2008 - a white-out lasting seven hours on the first day and temporarily shutting down the entrance gate - has become legendary.

"It's getting harder to stumble across that quirky, 'made-in-your-garage' stuff, but it's still really an amazing place," said Will Scott of Lagunitas, as he sat under an enormous replica of a Hummer SUV - one of nearly 200 installations throughout the Playa.

I hear the Antioch campus in Yellow Springs Ohio is closing down. The infrastructure is in place both for a large number of people to gather and burn things, yet also have a lot of toilets and sinks nearby.

Ohioans shouldn't have to drive all the way to Nevada for a few days of frontier rock and roll lifestyle. there are plenty of ohio places in the sticks to indulge in the frontier rock and roll lifestyle.

I've always been interested in going to the Burning Man Festival. I love people watching and I figure it's probably one of the best places for that. But hey Ryan and Jim if you want to start one here in the fine state of Ohio I would gladly be there.

when i was a small child my parents went to this place called the 'R' farm. some of their friends rented it. a bunch of folks showed up to drink and smoke and play music and have bonfires and stuff. people would sleep in tents and on the ground. There weren't so many novelties as Burning Man. I remember some kids climbing on a giant pile of dirt that turned out to be goat manure.

Burning Man seems like too much hassle to go to for a good time. My research indicates I can have an alright time walking to the gas station, buying a 24 oz can of beer, and drinking it on the walk back.
