I think sharing vehicles makes the most sense for the near future until Tim's social re-engineering takes place. (Look into my eyes, you are getting sleepy...ride a bike ditch your car. When I snap my fingers you will not remember any of this.......... Snap!)
A group of people can get together and collectively purchase a van and a pickup. Use them when needed (which is rarely for most people). The daily driver could be a bike, scooter, motorcycle, electric or high mpg car.
