TIME picture of the week
I always keep up with the latest in the field of photojournalism by keeping up with TIME's website and "pictures of the week". It's a habit of seeing what photos run with what news event, and figuring out why it was picked and so on.
I saw this photo in the May 16-22 "Pictures of the Week" section and wanted to share this with readers today. Since today is Memorial Day and we salute our armed forces (IMO, every day should be memorial day), I hope this photo impacts you the same way it impacted me.
Iraq is the deadliest country for journalists to be in. I'll pull out some numbers from the "100 most influential people" issue of TIME where it says:
"79. The number of journalists murdered in Iraq whose cases remain unsolved, making it the most dangerous country for reporters."
"15%. Proportion of murdered journalists whose killers have been brought to justice over the past 15 years."
So on Memorial Day please remember those we have lost in battle, but also the journalists who put their lives on the line so we can see what is really happening overseas.
