Why? So far, what little I have read on this shows that no one in any position to prosecute this has made an effort to do so. State Attorney General's office said this isn't the kind of case they would pursue. Most links on this topic when googled are simply repeats on right wing blogs of the same statements over and over. Is that what the "hmmm?" is for? Methinks the Republicans doth protest too much. They really would love to see the Democrats get hung up on this. It isn't coming from the Democratic party, neither candidate has made an issue of it and really the only place you hear about it any more is Rush Limbaugh and the blogosphere. Hmmm indeedy. I think most Democrats could care less compared to the oodles of Limbaugh listeners itching for this story to continue.
It was interesting that the article does go back to 2000 when it really should only go as far back as 2004, when GOP folks called registration drives (to get more low income individuals registered to vote) "Voter fraud" and did what they could to block this activity. Kenneth Blackwell made blocking successful voter registration activities an art form and boldly did it in the light of day.
I do agree that swapping sides really doesn't sound illegal to me, just underhanded (regardless of the party). I have yet to meet a Democrat in person or even on line that would think otherwise (well, except the "new" Democrats who would love to see a federal case about it...but didn't they say they were Democrats only for a day?
). Have you seen the groundswell of support for these investigations from anyone outside of Limbaugh fans and Right wing bloggers?
