a vote for change

Post by ryan costa »

Obama campaigns on the platform of "bringing people together" for "change".
He isn't too clear on what these people should do together, or what changes he wants to make.

Here is a good change to make. We need to create a new national holiday.
About 40,000 americans die in automobile accidents each year. More Americans have died in auto accidents than in all our wars combined. But there is no holiday for this. We've got Veterans day and Memorial day. We've got holidays for Jesus dying on the cross and resurrecting. We've got September 11th day.

There should be a holiday to commemorate Americans who died on the road. it can be like a cross between Halloween and Memorial day. There can be some kind of parades on tv.

Its nobodies fault. I mean, we had more space and wealth to devote to driving cars than any other place in the world. It is only natural there would be a lot of fatalities and casualties. It is literally the reason we had to raise the drinking age to 21.

Maybe a liberterian solution would work. A constitutional amendment allowing anyone to open a bar anywhere would make it easier for people to walk to bars. In Cleveland there are dozens of bars within walking distance. You aren't very likely to get hit by a car walking home from one, but for some reason it is a lot easier to get into a fight or shot or robbed. I remember 15 years ago the big thing was to beat some one up, and then take their Nike Air Jordan shoes. Even if you didn't want Nike Air Jordans, you could sell them to someone else who did for 20 dollars. then they wouldn't have to rob Nike Air Jordans from someone else.
