Gift Ideas Please

Post by dl meckes »

We need to buy a gift for a 15 year old boy and it can't use batteries or be electronic. We don't know anything about the boy, so clothes are out. A football or a basketball would be ok.

Because we don't have any 15 year-olds around, it's difficult to ask what else might be of interest.

Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Get the lad something creative and expressive.

A musical instrument, perhaps...guitar...drums...

...with LESSONS, please.

(far too many people fail to realize that music does not happen through osmosis)

In my opinion, get him just about anything other than one of those "kill or be killed" video games.

Just once, I'd like to see a video game that ends in peace.

I agree with Gary, an instrument with lessons is hard to beat. If your looking for something less expensive, Wings Hobby Shop on Detroit might have something that would be a good gift. I know when I've been in there, I'd like half of the inventory in my stocking.

More suggested instruments: Trumpet, Sax, bass guitar.

DVDs of some classic movies could be good too.

Well, I asked my son who isn't too far past that stage in his life. He came back with a basketball is what he would recommend.

Not knowing anything about the boy - you can play basketball even if you don't have a lot of money. While you may not be cut out for the pros or even a high school team - most kids of any size can play.

Plus the Cav's are hot right now and basket ball is cool.

BTW, with all due respect to the experts out there - musical instruments are expensive and really require a commitment to learn to play. Before I would buy an instrument for someone else - I would want to make sure that that person wanted one and it was the one that they wanted. I can't imagine yearning for a trumpet and getting a violin or visa versa.

But for a child that wanted a musical instrument - I can't imagine a more wonderful gift and you are absolutely right about the lessons.
