I know it's at the Women's Pavilion on Thursday, but I don't remember the start time.

My invitation says that it starts at 7:00 PM. My invitation also says that it is at Lakewood City Hall in the auditorium.

Since, I couldn't come, I'm dying to know how the debate tonight went.

The League of Woman Voters normally does an excellent form.

Please let me hear about everyone - Mayor, councilpersons and school board reps.

I know by this time most people have their minds made up but did anyone surprise you - do better or worse than expected?

Here's just a high-level of how I noticed each candidate answered questions:

Fitzgerald: Seemed to do an excellent job of responding to each question, he had direct eye contact with the audience the entire time, looked energetic and enthusiastic. All his answers and opening and closing statements were well done.

George: After each question, he would shuffle through papers in his hands looking for the right answer depending on the topic of the question. His opening and closing statements were also read and he ran out of time on each. The couple questions he answered that were asked that he didn't have prepared statements for came off a little weak. Those he could read from his papers were decent answers, just seemed impersonal with little eye contact.

The biggest reaction from the audience seemed to be when Fitz was asked about where his campaign money came from and he responded and added that he would never accept money from someone currently involved in negotiations with the city, especially if they wanted to buy a park.

I really enjoyed the city council portion. It was a great to hear all the candidates and their interesting ideas. Being in Ward 3, I hadn't paid alot of attention to the other Ward races, so it was nice to hear the candidates from around the city discuss their ideas.

Overall I think the LWV put on a great event.

Unfortunately I got there a little late, right about when the city council candidates started, so I missed the school board.

I would love someone to recap that part as the school board is probably the only race left where I still haven't made up my mind.

Not a bad format. It was even somewhat informative & entertaining.
The people choosing the questions didn't use mine. I wanted to ask the candidates if they would promise the people of Lakewood TONIGHT, to employ only honest, qualified, cost effective, focused, respectful management. People in government have an obligation to be knowledgeable & focus on core services in a cost effective , honest manor. In my opinion anything less is stealing from the public. I don't care what the excuse is. City jobs were not meant to be part of the welfare system or a way to pay back cronies. I think this is where citizens want city government to improve. Right at the base of the problem. Setting standards & managing risk.
The question closest to mine was for Fitzgerald. They asked if he planed to hire friends or contributors. The answer was NO. That should have been asked of both candidates.
I will vote for the person that can promise high standards & will respect the rights of residents. If you have the courage to ask "What would a well informed resident want, then follow that decision I don't think you can go wrong. That's my opinion.

IMHO George already answered that question...just look at his campaign finance records. I believe you'll see a hefty sum from Glitz.

Pat -

I would suggest you hold Fitzgerald's feet to the fire on that one because he has manipulated the truth on every facet of this campaign.

He already peppered the executive commitee of the democratic club with many of his buds. He left out myself and another member, who were members by virtue of our being committee chairs, probably because he wanted to make sure I wasn't there to try and hold his feet to the fire.

I would follow what he says very carefully if I was you or anyone else who believes in him. Keep track of what he says all along the way and watch the truth be distorted and manipulated. Never believe that someone doesn't lie because they say they don't lie. Little kids say that all the time.

He thinks no one heard what he said the first time. But some of us did.

took my placement test for college today and I can say that I'm a step closer to becoming a student.

I was talking to a adviser about the major I chose, and explained to her that I have had plenty of experience working in the Indians marketing and public relations offices...

she thought I said public administration.

Ivor for council in '13? sorry to cut anyone's hopes short, I quickly changed my field as soon as I saw "intro to politics" as a core class.

my friend and I (who is actually majoring in public administration/urban studies) missed the debate last night. I have to go on the record and say that the school board candidates shouldn't really be changed.

It's nice to see fresh faces on the council ballot. My friend voted absentee and was telling me about it.

I think that the change in the council itself will be a positive change, regardless of who is elected mayor. More people will be happy once we have members that represent their wards in a proficient, effective way.
