The surge is working, and now Iraq's leaders appear to have forged a political deal that could serve as a template for a lasting peace in the fractious country. What's that you say? First you've heard of it?

The deal mentioned in the editorial, and taken from the widely disseminated Reuters story, is very positive. On to oil sharing, and the standing up of the Iraqi army to take over from our men, and everybody can come home except for the Marines charged with guarding the embassy.

What do you think? Mission accomplished. Respect the Iraqi leaders and people by leaving them to their nascent democracy and oil revenues.

Xmas would be a long shot in my uneducated opinion on US troop needed in Iraq. I think.. If they are home by next summer then that would be great. Christmas would be a miracle. Also, there are many signs that the Iraqis want freedom. The fact that Iraqis are turning against Al Qaeda is a good thing. Mission accomplished on the elected Iraqis leaders and let the oil revenues help fund their democracy.

How long have our young men and women stood post in Korea since "mission accomplished" there? Remind me. I think it will be double that in Iraq. As long as Iran rattles the nuclear sabre, if Iraqi insurgents don't create a reason for us to stay there, the US will find some other reason. Maybe we won't have 100k in troops there but not much less.
