hah, that gave me a chuckle.
the kind of chuckle that you get when you see a drunk fan, who has been obnoxious all evening, trip down the steps at Jacobs Field.
time after time, dozens of people agree that the library is "the center of Lakewood". we've had discussions about this before and I know everyone remembers them.
This is the kind of stuff that puts more for sale signs up in this city. More and more people buy into the crap that's available for them to read.
I hope no one on this board buys into any of the stuff out there. There's a big difference between a fact-based, logical opinion and a hidden agenda to demoralize the positive that's present in this city.
just another day in Lakewood.
*yawn* I'm off to bed. concert coverage all day tomorrow, interviews and photo shoots here i come!
Hope you all have a wonderful day!

Good points Ivor. Unfortunately, Lakewood has received some bad press lately, those of us that live here know that most of it is unfair and inaccurate. We need to find a way to improve Lakewood's public image.

What an ignorant letter! Does Lakewood have signs on other hoops that say "whites only"? To write a letter saying the library is prejudiced here because the computers aren't available to black kids would indicate that there are some available to white kids. I know prejudice equals ignorance, but inciting prejudice beliefs is far worse. The fact that Scene published this letter makes me wonder if they are bothered that they lost some advertising to the LO. This gives me one more reason to never pick up that piece of trash.

You know what else I am curious about? Is there any evidence of what these "poor" students who have to walk ALL the way across Lakewood to access the computers are actually doing on the computers? Are they taking extra school classes or emailing? My teen, on days he could not get a ride or just wanted exercise, walked from Clarence to Mitchells in RR to WORK. So I hardly consider having sympathy for the POOR kids who don't have computer access while their library is in the process of becoming the nicest in the state. Wonder if the author of this letter has done anything proactive or positive in the community to work with teens?

I really want to make this clear, Both Pete Kotz, at the Scene, and Michael Gill at the Free Times have been very supportive of this project. Both have given us positive press, and we have worked with both on stories. Mow he Plain Dealer and their sister publication the Sun Papers have tried repeatedly to kill this project, as they feel the city does not deserve it own paper. But that is another story.
Both Michael and Pete are members of the LO deck.
What does bother me, and underlines that the anti-civic journalism rhetoric is nothing but smoke and mirrors is that every paper in town has printed a letter by this guy using different fake names in each one.
So much for credibility.
It also pains me that this letter was given any mileage on the LO Deck, which completes out shines their boards.
Why on earth would anyone want to give more mileage to absolute BS?

I sent a letter to a Family Magazine editor and they called to verify my name before they would print the letter. If Scene did not do that they were negligent and why would they print such an absurd letter like that? There are real issues to take space and this fabricated paranoid one should never have given merit. If you are friends with them, you should be more concerned with them publishing this than it being discussed on the deck.
Honestly I think the library board should sue the person who wrote the letter. Let him back up his claims.

"Just like City Hall, the well-paid library director Kenneth Warren and upper-class library board of trustees (who no doubt own computers and cars) do not care about poor people, yet our taxes finance their salaries"
Ok so according to the clown who wrote the letter, we are not only responsible for food, shelter and every other service Lakewood provides to low income, but now we are responsible for making sure they have computer use in easy walking distance? Should we get them all cell phones too?

How do you sue what cannot be found?
What bothers me most is the attack on Ken Warren a good man, that has given so much to this city.
The rest of the letter is an outright lie.
The computer area in the new area is larger with more computers, and there are now more computers at Madison Branch.
Petty, jealous, ignorant people that should not be given the time of day.
IMHO

To our knowledge there is no fake name on the deck. If one is suspected, please let me or an admin know.
The person I think you were speaking of was vetted and I met them, at a fundraiser.
He is not selling and a very real person.
It is the person that used a different name in the PD, Sun and other papers.
FWIW
