UPDATE:
The author, Tony Darnell, recently read a paper in the Physical Review Letters (2004) which uses WMAP data to put some size constraints on the size of the universe. According to the paper, the universe is probably no smaller than 46.5 billion light years. He made a new version of the HDF video here: Hubble Deep Field (Redux)
