Plant exchange

Post by Jeff Endress »

Here's a thought for next year. Many people have CHristmas Cookie exchanges, My poker cronies do a cigar exchange....

Can we organize a spring seedling exchange for next year? I put in a hundred tomato seedlings. Chris does a hundred eggplants. Lynn does a hundred cukes, Amy a hundred brocolli......All participants exchange what they planon planting. We make the excess available to others interested in the community garden idea.

Next spring, instead of heading to Gales, we exchange seedlings.

Most of this could even be done with reserved seeds.
ANy interest?

Sounds great Jeff!

P.S. When are you going to put a greenhouse off the back of the office?

as a seed growing fanatic great idea!

off topic a bit but I really missed the plant sale that was at Lakewood Park last summer. I think the master gardeners put it on. That was a great selection of plants for very little $.

Great idea!

We had someone leave extra (tomato?) plants at one of the first LEAF nights and I don't see why we couldn't have a year round exchange of plants or cuttings at the barter table every Thursday. The barter table at LEAF night is where people are encouraged to bring excess food from their garden or exchange unwanted food from their CSA bag.

If your garden is turning out too many zucchinis or something stop by on Thursday between 6-8 at the new Lakewood Library on Detroit and share your bounty.
