Just curious if there was a specific color that was used....I know of a local tavern in that area that also had restroom walls recently spray painted.

Was there and checked.

Spray paint same symbols in two places, 7 blocks apart on a parallel.

While there were symbols, and letters.

I find it highly unlikely to be gang related, I could be wrong.

Work of same person from what I see, different paint. Same height, same symbols.

Reason for me doubting gang related?

Same symbols on the side of a Morton Salt container.

Jim, are you suggesting that the malefactors were simply marking the school as Kosher?

I agree that the safety of the city will determine whether people stay or not.

My parents moved out of Lakewood earlier this year. My sister followed them a few months later. We would like to move into a bigger house within a few years - whether or not that will be in Lakewood or another suburb depends almost entirely on the safety factor.

I grew up on Wyandotte, and could go out and play from morning till night without my mother giving a worry. I don't think my children will have that same luxury.

I Googled the symbols, star of David and upright pitchfork (can be symbols for the "Gangster Disciples".) There was also a "13K" and a "74D" (74th & Detroit?) All graffiti symbols mean something--it's not just "urban art". It concerns me that nothing has been done to remove the graffiti. It used to be that Lakewood would jump on something like that.

It's all about the "Broken Window Theory". (A broken window left unfixed can quickly encourage more crime, and vandalism because it sends a message of apathy to everyone that sees it." )

Something to think about.............

LC

It is being taken care of. Lakewood has a no grafitti rule.

Recently I was at two meetings of civic institutions that proposed a grafitti wall in Lakewood.

I simply could not believe it. I love grafitti as an art form, but this is insanity. My only comment, Grafitti walls are what a city does when it is out of control, turn chaos into art.

The message in Lakewood right now has to be not tolerated anywhere anytime. Grafitti walls are waving the white flag to taggers.

Thanks for the inisight into gang meaning.

Guess I hang with the wrong crowd.

I agree that it should not be tolerated anywhere at any time. I say forget the graffiti wall and put the basketball hoops back up. The basketball courts at Roosevelt used to be full of kids. Why did they ever take them down? Give the kids something to do; maybe they won't go looking for mischief.

If I remember correctly, Chief Malley said at last night's Council meeting that one of the reasons the hoops were taken down was because of drug paraphernalia found, and that drug deals were being made at the basketball courts...

That's very interesting; I didn't know that. I guess we don't want the basketball hoops back.

So... if drug deals go down at Burger King, the city will shut B.K. down? Maybe this is a good strategy. j/k.

Arrest the drug dealers and thugs.

JIm,

As soon as Robert is able to post, he will provide his interpretation.

Robert spent time as a social working in Minnesota. As part of his experience he learned how to interpret graffiti.

There are a number of reason's why this is wanna-be Graffiti.

The star of David is acutally the 6 pointed star of the Cripts.
