Wyandotte Vandalism
This morning, I noticed several cars parked on Wyandotte near Athens that were 'decorated' by some punk-thugs with spray paint. Has anyone heard anything about this? Have other streets had problems like this or other types of vandalism this summer?

Rick,
Please bring your concerns to tonight's council meeting. I've been informed that a large group of life long residents will be present to demand increased police protection, among other issues.
As I understand it, the citizen's message is simply: Get more cops on the streets, or we are leaving.
I hope to see you there.

Buttheads. If there were basketball hoops for them, this wouldn't have happened... just kidding.
Couple years ago some pinheads wandered down Merl putting holes in tires. Sometimes all 4. Nice.
Question, apartment buildings aside, why don't people in lkwd use their driveways and garages?
Rick, maybe we could add a "No Parking on city Streets study and enforcement" levy to your basketball levy?

Joe, I'm not sure if there's a basketball connection here. Curfew violation, perhaps.
Why don't people in Lakewood use their driveways and garages? I know I do -- and my wife and I will make certain our cars are in our garage and the door is shut if cars are being spray-painted.
I think most of the homeowners on Wyandotte use their driveways and garages. The problem seems to be with the rentals -- mostly doubles. Some of these doubles have more than 6 vehicles at the one address! The residents try to line them up in the single lane driveway, but if someone needs to run to Circle-K for a Mountain Dew and a pack of smokes, cars need to be rearranged. Add frequent visitors and broken-down/abandoned vehicles to the equation and you have a parking problem.
I hope the police catch whoever spray-painted those cars. Wyandotte is becoming a difficult street to own a home on.

This is where sitting in your front window, front porch, etc. is helpful to your neighbors and the police. While it has been asserted that you can't do anything about crime if you sit in your home, I disagree.
This is a perfect example of how watchful neighbors can make a difference without confronting miscreants.

Jim, dl,
I'm simply relaying what I hear from my father. He's among the group of lifer's that will bail if the safety issue is not confronted in a timely manner.
As long as Lakewood is safe, I will live, prosper and grow old here.
Witih city hall displaying a near complete lack of foresight on this issue, I question the viability of being a 25 year old lifer.
Cleveland Heights beefed up their police force in the 70's. 30 years later, they're nearly toast.
The upwardly mobile will make rational decisions based upon quality of life indicaters, the biggest being safety.
If the city is not safe, the foundation is rotten. All other community visions disolve.
I intend to fight like hell for safety. I want to stay.
Lakewood needs reform. Now.
Are the citizen's of Lakewood ready to demand such?

I merely am reacting to the comment as it has been used for every school levy, and political vote since I can remember.
I have gotten to the point when people give me ultimatums, I try to accept them as soon as possible and then go back to work.
I am funny that way.
Always reminds me of a story from Paul Tepley, and his neighbor that warned him Lakewood was going down the tubes. Now is the time to move and get while the getting was good. I asked Paul if he moved and the reply was, "No he died 35 years ago."
Cooler heads will always prevail.

Jim,
I'm not saying "Lakewood's going down the tubes, let's get out."
I am saying this a critical point in our history, we need to act fast to resolve the emerging threat to safety in the 'Wood.
Just perceptions and feelings.
My ultimatum is to council and the mayor: Have the courage to face this issue honestly and with prudence, or the citizens of Lakewood will do an end run around you.
