Various international organizations, liberal activist groups and left wing politicians have signed on to the global warming hysteria band wagon because they see it as a vehicle to expand their power over people.
The conflicts between individual liberty and statism never really end they just enter a new phase.

The casual observer could be excused for thinking that Muslim extremists engaged in a genocide against Black African Christians might have something to do with racism and religious animosity. Don't be silly!!!

actually, the article makes sense. when there is famine, there is fighting for more scarce resources. Consider our Iraqi occupation merely a pre-emptive war to mark our territory before the Chinese can afford to pay more for oil than us and use much more than us. But that is ok: the price of textiles and other manufactured goods have been going down for the average American consumer for several decades.
When there's fighting over scarce resources or easy wealth people don't take civil service exams to join sides. the sides usually fall into place along clan/religious/ethnic/ and geographic lines.
