I'm getting bored with the politics every day so I decided to change things up a bit.

what's everyone's favorite movie, movie director, movie soundtrack (score) and actor/actress?

what about movie genres?

I'll start off...
Favorite movie: in theaters, batman begins or the prestige. Overall, the shining, munich.
Favorite director: Stanley Kubrick, Stephen Spielberg, Christopher Nolan
Favorite Score: The Last of the Mohican's had great music.
Favorite Actor: Christian Bale
Favorite Actress: Jessica Biel

Favorite movie light: Chocolate, Pretty Woman, Babe, The Money Pit, Legally Blonde
Favorite movie heavy: Maria Full of Grace, El Crimen del Padre Amaro, Dirty Pretty Things, The Last King of Scotland.
Favorite director: not sure
Favorite Score: Notting Hill, Big Easy
Favorite Actor: Richard Gere, Johnny Depp,
Favorite Actress: Julia Roberts, Jane Fonda, Reese Witherspoon

For relaxing, I really like funny movies with a happy ending, often with a positve message. These are movies that I can rewatch when I am down and never fail to lift me.

I know a movie is really great when it bothers me and moves me and I think about it years later. That is the case in the heavy movie category. All great movies - but none of them are easy.

I have heard the scores to Notting Hill and Big Easy until the CD's have almost worn out.

Lynn I would highly recommend Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, and the prestige.

all great movies, especially the prestige which makes you want to see it the second its over

Those two were steaming back then and didn't have to be in bed to
convey that.

Kill Bill 1 and 2
Tombstone/Wyatt Earp (2 different movies, almost the same, one starring Kevin Costner, the other with Kurt Russel)

hitchcock was a loony guy. he took his daughter to an amusement park one evening and payed the operator of a ferris wheel to stop the ride when she was at the top of the wheel. then he payed off the guy that ran the lights to the park and told him to turn the lights off when the ferris wheel stopped.

great director though. I've only seen vertigo, but i liked it. hitchcock makes a cameo apprearance in every one of his movies, which i found neat!

Some Favorite movies that come to mind-
Saving Private Ryan
Band of Brothers (does that count as a movie?)
Breakfast Club - nails high school kids to the T
Breaking Away
Grand Prix
Crash - everyone should watch that one especially in regards to the race thread.

A favorite sound track that comes to mind is-
Masked and Anonymous
Band of Brothers
Ronaldo and Clara - not sure an official sound track was ever released. might be bootleg only

I like Mark's Fav Actress/Actor Past/Present list too. I would add Tom Hanks as well as others I suppose.

Hitch was also an innovator. One movie of his that is a must-see is "The Rope". On the surface, you might think it's was a play, as I did, until I looked it up on the wiki : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rope_(film)

From just being a fantastic movie all done without any special effects at all, pure acting, manipulating your mind, now I find there is a great amount of subtle content to it, and also psychological interpretations regarding details of the movie.

Btw, I agree, Tom Hanks is also a great actor.
I have to add all his movies, and all Penny Marshall movies to my list.

A League of Their Own, is great in all categories.
The Natural is another great one, starring Robt. Redford. Superb musical
score on that one too.

Just watched a older movie of Pacino's and Michelle Pfeiffer's, Frankie and Johnnie. Wow, what a great romantic type flick.

Wonder how I missed this one.

Speaking of Michelle Pfeiffer, The Fabulous Baker Boys is an awesome movie. Michelle Pfeiffer sings her own songs, and she is a great singer. The scene with "Makin' Whoopie" is a classic.

I am a great fan of the movie "Roadie". It stars Meatloaf as a guy who jury rigs stuff to work, and that guy from The Honeymooners as Meatloaf's Dad. Alice Cooper also makes a strong performance as Rock and Roll Star Alice Cooper.

Brazil? A terry gilliam fan huh?

We just covered his stuff and watched 12 monkeys. strange movie, but I liked it. The teacher recommended Brazil as one of the best gilliam movies.

Brazil was very depressing, because it seems so likely.

I am a great fan of the movies with Clint Eastwood and the orangutan. To me they showcase the peak of American Society. Maybe even human civilization.
