Foofaraw.
I think that sums it all up in just one word.
Algore won't debate this issue because the science is to flimsy to withstand scrutiny. The global alarmist are reduced to death threats and charges of heresy.
Doug, just one small correction to your title. You should delete: (or woman). It's always the man's fault!

Can you say hypocrite?!? Al Gore refuses to sign personal energy ethics pledge.

Remember last year, when there were supposed to be a terrible number of hurricanes due to global warming? Remember in the previous year that global warming (along with the CIA dynamiting the levees) caused Hurricane Katrina.

Again, there is a blurring of the line here.
It is a well proven fact that the earth is currently in a warming period.
It is a fact that the earth has cyclic period of warmer and cooler average temperatures.
What is debatable is whether the current warming trend is accelerating at a faster pace than previous periods and whether the warming trend is caused by human activity, or if it is accelerated if the accelerated pace is due to human activity.
As for hurricanes - they are wiley creatures indeed and hurricane prediction is in its infancy. The error may have more to due with prediction capabilities than the effect or non-effect of warming. The link between to two was indeed largely media driven as from my research last year on El Nino/El nina led to a n umber of studies that were only exploring the 'potential' impacts - not the 'expected' impacts.
But - to be fair - my research was specifically on the ENSO effects and not on hurricanes so there is a likely possibility there were items I did not see or review.
Back to my corner...

PS - Kumbaya, my southern oscillation, kumbayah........

Danielle, that was a pretty transparent 'gotcha' on the part of Sen. Inhofe, who has done little at these hearings except try to needle and embarrass Gore personally. Typical Republican response - when you can't discredit the message, discredit the messenger.
Let's accept for a moment that maybe Gore is a hypocrite when it comes to his personal energy usage. - what does that have to do with the debate about global warming? How does it make the argument itself less valid?
There is a real battleground of debate over the extent to which rising global temperatures is manmade or whether they're the harbinger of a global crisis. This kind of petty personal backstabbery is highly counterproductive to having that kind of honest debate.

Brian if in fact Mr. Gore feels Global Warming is really caused by mankind than his hypocrisy is relative to this conversation. When a person says "Do as I say, not as I do" it does a whole lot to discredit their message. Perhaps the "global warming" community should chose a better spokesman. I just can't take a person seriously when his house is 5 times larger than mine and he uses a way lot more energy than my rather large family. It's funny how democrats think its okay to be rich and wasteful but only if you're a fellow democrat, gotta love that logic. BTW although I doubt global warming is caused by man I do feel we should be good to the environment, my logger grandfather taught me that. I believe we are stewards to this planet and it is all of our responsibility to try and reduce any harm we might do to this planet. I don't think that the US should be labeled the polluting villain when so many other countries do nothing to protect the environment. I also feel the rich Hollywood types shouldn't get a free pass just because they can afford to buy a tree or some other carbon offset. And for the record my Republican family has four different "trash" cans. We recycle everything we can. My children learned young to recycle. We usually throw out 1 to 2 bags of trash a week, not bad for a family of seven.
