Be The First To See The Best - Library Gala Opening

We all know what fun a party can be, and one of the best in the future will be "Be The First To See The Best" Library Grand Opening Gala.

This party will be June 23rd, 2007 and will allow patrons and friends to take a look at the library before the opening. I do not want to spoil any special surprises, but the food, drink, music, silent auction and entire event should rival Lakewood Hospital's Starry Night, which was the high water mark for parties last year!

But before we party, we must plan.

While it is hard to imagine Lakewood without the library, I find it even harder to imagine Lakewood without Shannon!

I actually bought it, from the Men's Wearhouse in West Des Moines. The suit is Jones New York, and my lovely fiancee is wearing a Tadashi dress from Neiman Marcus.

I do not want to say.

They decided to call the most expensive package the Publisher's Package. When I questioned Ken abut it, he told me. They didn't believe I was a real publisher, but Ken assured them I was.

Now there is a friend for ya.

Seriously, this be be the party everyone will want to say they were at this year.

Starry Night was food that was unbelievable, I think from what I have heard this whole night will be as grand as the new library.

One of the high points of working with the Observer is helping events like this, Starry Night, Congenital Heart Disease fund raising and more.

This project came about when it came to our attention that charities in Lakewood were being asked to pay for online advertising.

The LPL is actually one of the top reasons I decided to move back to Lakewood.

I would like to donate photographs to the Library fundraiser too! Maybe all the Observer photographers could donate as a gift from the Observer. Maybe we could actually make a good deal of money for a good cause.

Well, while we are here all talking about it.

Maybe we should get together as we have the Bela Dubby art show as well for charity coming up.

I have some ideas, but love that everyone is in on this.

What is truly awe-inspiring is the way that so many people have come together to plan what will be a first class event in our world class Robert A.M. Stern library addition. The groundswell of public support and enthusiasm for the project has been unbelievable. While I don't think Jim mentioned it, the Gala, as a fundraiser, is intended to raise additional monies for public art at LPL, beyond the Grand Reading Room mural by Haas, which has been commissioned .

And, as Jim loves to say, there's more on the way. But more on other plans later.

For those of you who haven't been by, there are windows now being installed (south side), and we should be off the temporary construction heaters next week. Dry wall is being installed and in a few weeks, the construction office will move into the trailer now on Arthur in anticipation of parking lot installation behind the addition.

Hard to believe that after all the hard work we're planning the grand opening gala. I'm pretty pumped!

public art is great ... will this include gallery space or wall space to have periodic shows of artwork from Lakewood residents? Perhaps a display case or two to show three-dimensional pieces, or artifacts from the Lakewood Historical Society? Or even some wallspace to display some historic photos from their archives, or other area archives?
