Aren't all threads connected to one big old aphgan or something. I wasn't really trying to get everyone off topic, I thought it was all related. If I seem attention deficit I probably am, but still think it is all related, the signs, and making Lakewood look good enough for others to get off the exit. Anyway, I feel no offense and if I offend in asking questions than that is not my intent. I think we all want what is best for Lakewood, but just have different ideas what that means.

To me I think preserving the storefronts and bringing businesses here to open up is needed so people seeing the much needed-signs don't think we are a dying town. That is what I was wondering what Main Street is about. Who doesn't love going to Tremont or Coventry and hitting the shops and good eateries? Their businesses don't survive on local patronizers, but on people coming to their town for cute little artsy feel, and the fact that you can walk around to several businesses, to shop and eat. I am stating the obvious but how many of us will spend money in those spots when the weather breaks?

I understand your point better now. Frankly, what irked me more was that the points that you raised all sounded very familiar to the load of bologna that Jim likes to use to mislead the public and grandstand. It's static like that which derails progress and keeps others from participating. I see now that the intention was to get more to the heart of the issue of polishing the product rather than just hanging a sign on the freeway.

I finally had to really read this thread to understand a quarter of what's going on.

Shawn-with all the different ideas, I had forgotten the information regarding ODOT's requirements.

I'm not entirely comfortable with any of the signs mentioned. Those little highway signs don't give me the information I need and "If You Lived Here..." signs do nothing for me.

I'd prefer to do things more like the Lorain Ave. antique area did, and that was to get themselves officially identified as a district and market it.

I wonder whether so-called entertainment districts follow the ODOT regulations that Shawn has pointed out.

But I don't think little green signs or big banners tell the tale of what we have here or add and aesthetic value.

The truth is, none of us like opinions that are polar from our opinions. Sometimes we can learn from them and sometimes they just infuriate us. And most of get very uncomfortable around conflict, but at least in this forum, the conflict arises from passion for the city. That won't hurt the city, what will hurt the city is indifference. The ones who don't want to share their opinon, make themselves vulnerable, or a target for criticism. Even if it means standing up for what you believe in. Some would rather not belive in anything. It is the indifference that scares me most, not heated debates. Although I do hope all the passion gets channeled together for common goals.
