great question!
the wind chill is -17 at the moment. Dr.Estrop went on record saying that Lakewood would get a cold day before we'd get a snow day. Lets hope the wind continues to get stronger for tomorrow.
Most of the closings have been south of Lakewood and in Medina. St.Mel's, St.Mark, schools in that area.

snow
when it is just a snow day you have to worry about kids going on an improvised crime wave. Fortunately it will be really too cold for them to get into much trouble.

Kate,
you used the right word earlier in this topic. Stingy.
Stan, our 5 free days per school year don't count if they're not used. Believe it or not, it takes me 20 minutes (give or take) to walk from my house to school...while that isn't a lot, it is when a wind at 30 mph and a temp. of -20 degrees is blowing directly in your face.
Every school district in greater cleveland is closed. What's holding this guy back? I'll be using the day to do my financial aid forms so I won't go around participating in a crime wave. Oh, over 205 schools are closed.
Stan have you thought of any new prank ideas? I tried to get the secret code out of my house principal last night at the hockey game, but she didn't know it.
The PTA reflections contest is coming up on thursday and I'll hopefully talk some sense into Dr.Estrop. Maybe we should lock him out of the civic, so he can spend some time talking to johny appleseed

A body of a 47 year old man has been found in Ravenna. The death looks to be weather related.
Tonights low is supposed to be between 0 and -5. With a 25 mph wind at a wind chill between -15 to -25, you can get frostbite while being exposed for 15 to 30 minutes. (all in tomorrows forecast)
thanks dr.estrop,
cant wait to walk to school tomorrow.

-19 at the moment. forecast high is about 8 degrees. our forecast high is about the forecast low for alaska tomorrow. kinda crazy huh? oh there goes rocky river. we're the only district left.
hooray! my respect for this man (which was already low) is dropping at the same rate as the thermometer.
morale is already low when it comes to that guy and the board. why are they digging themselves farther into their graves? This is the same man that complained of his contract. Maybe if we gave him the money he's asking for he'll make some smart decisions. Then again I'd rather see the money go towards the LPD than to Dr.Estrop. just my thoughts.

Here is what Dr. Estrop has said about school closings:
I'd like to know if the last line of his comments are the reason this district is so stingy with snow days. Just for the record my children are not leaving the house tomorrow.
When the streets, sidewalks, school parking lots and sidewalks are not passable because of snow or ice. Also, we will close if the temperatures are so low that being outside is dangerous. Please remember, that parents can always keep their children home if they disagree with the schools remaining open. Such absences are regarded as excused and all work can be made up. Parents can exercise this option by simply calling the respective school attendance line and indicating the absence of their child(ren) is because of the weather. It is important to remember that for some in our community, an unscheduled day off from school means that a child(ren) will be left home alone because of parent job responsibilities.

Lakewood Schools are STILL not on the closing list.
PLEASE do not wait until morning to close the schools. It is not fair to the students or parents.
This is a walking community and there is no way children should be out in those temperatures.
I'm getting very annoyed that no decision has been made and we are left wondering and waiting. Fairview is closed, Rocky River, most of the Catholic high schools.
Come on!
DO THE RIGHT THING AND CLOSE THE SCHOOLS!

decision
The whole point of an administrator getting a Ph.D is to maintain a dismissive or oblivious attitude to constituents.

From here:

Bay is closed, everything around us is closed.
Yes. I'll keep my kids home, but I want to see Lakewood officially close for the day.
