LO_20_19 On The Streets And Online! Fall is here

Hello Lakewood!

Here we are, first issue of October, filled with events, happenings, fun things to do, and news.

In this issue we say goodbye to Fire Chief Timothy Dunphy. I have known Tim since we started the paper, he is a true Lakewood native that is a class act. Always putting community and his firefighters before himself. While it is sad we lose Tim, and wish him well, we gain Ryan Fairbanks in the Fire Chief role. Lakewood has a history of promoting from within, and this guarantees that each Fire Chief has training and experience in the role they are taking over.

We also are announcing our Annual Halloween/Fall Decorating Event. Each year Lakewood’s Halloween decorations have gotten larger and better. We encourage all Lakewoodites to take a walk around your neighborhood, or a drive or bikeride around town. It is a magical time of year, and unlike our Christmas Decorating Contest, warm enough outside to enjoy yourself while doing it. If you see a house that should be recognized, go to the Lakewood Observer’s front page (lakewoodobserver.com) and click on the “Question of the Day” on the right menu bar, and enter your favorites. We are asking everyone to nominate 3 homes, just to mix it up. One person nominating, possibly more will be chosen at random and awarded a $25.00 gift certificate for fine dining in Lakewood. The overall winner of the contest will get a special prize valued at $100, and the top 8 will also get prizes awarded by: Woodstock BBQ, India Garden, The Root Cafe and Carabel Beauty Salon.

We also congratulate Ian Andrews of LakewoodAlive as CDC Staff Member of the Year! Well deserved, and I am sure Ian credits his entire staff and sponsors for the award. But he also deserved it for his own work and the person he is already. I knew Ian before he became LakewoodAlive’s Director. He bought his house from a friend of mine, and he had already become a legend at the Detroit Shoreway CDC, run by CDC Legend Raymond L. Pianka.

We also are reminding Lakewood of two of LakewoodAlive’s biggest and best promotions, the Chocolate Walk, and Spooky Pooch Parade.

Have a fun, safe, October, and we shall see you in two weeks, if not at one of the many fall events around Lakewood.

You can pick up a printed copy of the Lakewood Observer at over 100 locations around town including businesses, grocery stores, drug stores, schools, library, and most large apartment mail rooms.
