New Refuse Processing Facility NOW OPEN On Berea Road First Look

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

Division Manager Glen Bleich shows off the truck and storage side of the facility.

Lakewood has constructed a new refuse facility, to give them a better way to process trash, and recycling. Using some of the old structure, where trucks are still stored at night. The new side allows residents a very nice easy drive through recycling experience. While many may never see it or use it, those that do will appreciate it. Everything from checking in to emptying is easier and less stressful.

I got up there early opening day, hoping Division Manager Glen Bleich might show me around, and I was in luck.

Let’s see the new facility and process.

You now use the left driveway to access the facility.

This is where you drive up. Glen might not be there, but Marie, Ramon and staff are ready to help.

Image
You can now sign in without getting out of the car.

Pull straight in.

Image
All of the stations for refuse, trash, industrials, oils, paint, propane tanks and more are clearly labeled.

Heavy duty industrial shredder, and the box you drop off in is locked for security.

Cardboard bundle machine back and working. Each bundle is worth more than $100 to the city.

This is the area featured in first photo, and is used to store the trucks and other equipment.

As trucks pull in their undercarriages are washed to cut down on rust and corrosion.

Then out the back door, past the resting spot for this old Santa.

Very nice, and another thing checked off the desperately needed to do list for Mayor George.

Thank you to Glen, Marie, Ramon and crew. The city appreciates your work and effort.

So, really what happens to the recycling?

Are they taking construction debris again?

For a while, I think due to this construction, they weren't.

They have been taking construction debris for the past 6 months, two large open semi trailers for metal, and other.

While I did not see them moved, I know they are still there.

Always best to call ahead if you have a question.

I cannot say, bit I know more is being recycled, easier and cheaper than before.

What that figure is, is hard to say.

ALL cities, job that out, so they can say with a clean conscience "we recycle."
