In this issue of the Lakewood Observer we look at some late breaking news and clean up some "late" breaking news. Also time to look at the Schools, the non-profits, help you get your house painted, ways top save money and have fun, we meet a Lakewood artist, and much much more.

The Mayor has posted her take on the Hospital Development since Roundstone announced it was pulling out December 2nd. The development is going ahead, with some changes that it would seem both council and the mayor wanted. While Roundstone has been a great member of the community, they had never gone deeper than indicating a serious interest in the project with the hope of moving in.

While this hurts, as I spoke with the Mayor, members of City Hall departments involved. City Council members including the President John Litten, every was on the same page about what happened, how it happened, how we might avoid it in the future, and pushing ahead with a more residential version. The developer is still as dedicated to the project as the city, I think this gets done. When?

That's my initial reaction to what I read above here on the Deck and in this edition of the LO.

Why would the City of Lakewood ever want to spend millions to build an apartment building?

On its face this seems just ridiculous.

A decade of official public planning by our Planning Department leaves us with only a plate of very stale ideas ---and another jobs and business exodus?

That's my initial reaction to what I read above here on the Deck and in this edition of the LO.

Why would the City of Lakewood ever want to spend millions to build an apartment building?

On its face this seems just ridiculous.

A decade of official public planning by our Planning Department leaves us with only a plate of very stale ideas ---and another jobs and business exodus?

It was public in January. Just no one had spoon fed it to the public yet. Look at the council meeting and the conversations flowing out if it.
At the same time, rumor has it the conversation is not dead dead with Roundstone.

In my humble opinion, Roundstone was just a name to stick on the project. While they indeed were interested, it did not check off all the boxes they needed and more importantly no letter of intent. You know, sometime I need to disagree with myself. I would say the largest spanner* in the wheels, was social media and their desperate need to have everything now.

We had almost a year of talking about how good a company Roundstone is, and how they add to our community. Which they do. This is a signal for every other city in the reading audience to try to convince them to move to their town. Let's be honest, most towns are better off financially, and/or with buildable space. Lakewood has neither. How do you keep them on the farm, when they have someone willing to give they everything they ever wanted for FREE?

Interesting thought, had the original plan been built on facts not lies, it would have gotten done. Had not so many special interest gotten involved in this, it would have broken ground.

Public input is great for some things and terrible for others.
