Three of The Fastest In The World, And A Happy Couple All Out And Playing In Lakewood

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

I have been getting more and more calls about the birds in Lakewood, and some sending photos.

Today I got a call and as I went to the car I looked up and saw what is becoming a common sight on the West Side of Lakewood. And it is a great treat, the fastest animal in the world by over 100 miles and hour is the Peregrine Falcon, which while diving has reach speeds of 240 mph! A cheetah the fastest land mammal can hit 60, a Bald Eagle in a dive about 99mph and a Red Tail Hawk can achieve around 120 mph in a full dive. That is only half as fast as a Peregrine.

There are also Peregrines living on the Westerly.

Across the street was the second fastest, a Red Tail Hawk.

But the real find of the day, the couple that took my breath away was...

Then after a couple hours they left.

People are seeing the bald eagles all over Lakewood along the Lake and the Emerald Canyon.

Red Tail Hawk and Cooper's Hawks are on almost every street.

And the Peregrines are under the bridges and along the cliffs of the canyon.

There is a hawk that got a squirrel on Niagara. Haven't gotten close enough for a pic.
