Metroparks Proposes an 8-10 Feet Wide Sidewalk on Lake Ave

Existing Sidewalk on Lake Avenue in Cleveland

The Cleveland Metroparks is proposing to expand the North side of Lake Avenue's sidewalk to an 8-10 feet wide in Cleveland, Ohio. https://www.clevelandmetroparks.com/abo ... nt-project. What will this do to the historic homes and trees on Lake?

Cleveland Metroparks, Northeast Ohio Area Coordinating Agency (NOACA), Cuyahoga County Planning Commission, Cuyahoga County, County Executive Armond Budish, Mayor Frank Jackson, and Cleveland's Ward 15 Councilwoman Jenny Spencer are in favor of this $690,000 project.

There is a grassroots organization in Cleveland opposing this sidewalk expansion. https://www.savelake.org. They would rather use Edgewater Drive in Cleveland for bicycles.

Currently, the City of Lakewood has marked lanes for bikes on our portion of Lake Avenue. If you look at the rendering maps, there is an indication that Lakewood will have a similar 8-10 feet sidewalk in our future.

My question to the At-Large candidates for Lakewood City Council is: Where do you stand on an 8-10 feet sidewalk in Lakewood?

My question to Metro Parks...

Why isn't this done on the north side of the street or at least both sides.

I realize that this happened when the residents of Lakewood coastline said "NO" to Metro Parks' original proposal of walkways along the lake. This would have seen them get help with break walls and landfill. But collectively they said "NO."

So why not wind it down the North side of Lakewood and Edgewater? It would make it more visual for both those biking and visiting Lakewood.

What does it take for residents to say no to MEtro Parks, even when the law is on their side? Friends? Business Partners? What?

I guess the Metroparks backed off on this one.

They should spend the money instead on narrowing that five point, overly wide intersection where the Route 2 "Parkway" highway exit ramp dumps out into the neighborhood. That is where there are real safety and access concerns.
