Some Unusual Commentary From A Life-long Democrat

One sign of the unusual times that we now live in is that I listened to Governor DeWine's speech and thought it both an excellent speech and representative of the best that I expect in leadership.

The speech in many respects was made as a rebuttal to what I will term "Covid-19 Denial".

Outside of the urban counties, most Ohioans do not believe that Covid-19 is a health risk where they live.

Yesterday, I spoke with someone who lives in a Level-3 county and I heard a message that I could only interpret as complete denial:

"It's just like the flu."

"All the numbers are fake."

"None of the deaths are actually Covid."

"I will never wear a mask."

"The governor's orders are not lawful."


That's a real-life take on what DeWine is hearing from within his own party from rural townships.

It's that lack of logic that has allowed the anti vaxers (sp?) to unravel some of the major successes of measles eradication.

To me there's one person to blame for the resurgence of Covid-19 here and its frightening growth elsewhere: Trump. It's long past time to use the special powers to remove a president contained in the 25th Amendment. His obstinacy is directly responsible for thousands of deaths. He has given many Americans permission to follow the darker angels of our nature. Kudos to Gov. DeWine for trying yo reverse that course.
