Mask wearing is equivalent to the honor system in Lakewood.
No one is in charge. There is not, nor will be, any enforcement.
This morning on the morning news (I don't know which station), I saw a clip of Lakewood 's Mayor George, stating that she felt it was enough, if everyone tried to maintain a distance of 6 feet.
She said a few more words, but basically, put our safety into our own hands.
It is said, that we're in this together. And, we are. It's much like contracting AIDS. Remember when it was said, that when having a sexual relation with a new partner, that it was the equivalent of sleeping with everyone, whom that person had recently slept with?
Well, same goes with covid-19. Everyone, you or I come in close contact with, are vulnerable to everyone that that person has been in contact with. Maybe, the symptoms simply aren't showing yet.
As an example, I went for a dental cleaning the other day. I wasn't keen on having to remove my mask, but my only option was to postpone until a later date. Well..... for how long? Until a vaccine gets discovered? Meanwhile, tartar needs to be removed.
In the midst of the cleaning, I learn that the hygienist had recently gone on an out-of-state vacation to a city with rising covid cases. Swell. In fact, the city has just closed all bars for a second time.
So basically, sitting in that dental chair with my mouth wide open, subjected me to everyone she had been in contact with.
Now over all, I feel pretty certain, that she is healthy, and that consequently, I am too.
But, for politicians to ignore science, to ignore humidity and to ignore the breeze factor of contributing to the hang time of droplets and to the spread of droplets, is simply irresponsible.
Scientists are saying that EVERYONE needs to WEAR a mask. That this thing could be beat, if everyone wore a mask. Yet, a politician decides that maintaining a distance of 6 feet should be enough.
I put my trust in science and will continue to wear a mask.
I hope you will, too.

Ms. Bennett -- Thank you, thank you, thank you! You are a wise one. Let us each help protect one another...

I've often thought of comparing Covid-19 to AIDS but there was that voice in the back of my head saying, "don't go there." Now that pj has gone there, I thank her. It's a good comparison, especially to AIDS in the early 1980s. It creates so much fear. So much is unknown about it. There is such an unwarranted stigma.
As time passes, our knowledge will increase and our fear recede, but meanwhile there are two things we know to do: socially distance and wear a mask.
