Picture It!!

Post by Bridget Conant »

I hear the truck park is already packed.

I’ve seen the bars on Detroit packed.

Its about time for a little citizen journalism - document it!

If you are walking down Detroit or Madison and see a bar or restaurant violating Ohio regulations, take a cell pic.

Let’s amass the evidence for council and others so they understand the situation AND there can be no “I don’t know that for sure” excuses.

Post them here.

Let’s see how well Lakewood bars are complying with public health directives.

Yes, take those photos. Because apparently we're asked to believe that no one on city council or the mayor herself drives down Detroit or Madison.

This article was on cleve.com today. It seems like Mayor George is aware of the situation.

Lakewood police reminding bar and restaurant staff about COVID-19 safety protocol

By John Benson, special to cleveland.com
LAKEWOOD, Ohio -- A proactive and friendly visit is how Mayor Meghan George characterized neighborhood police officers this week reminding local businesses and restaurants about COVID-19 safety measures, which include social distancing and face covering requirements.

“We received some calls in my office about the lack of social distancing at some of the bars and restaurants,” George said. “We just want to have our community officers remind restaurants of the social distancing guidelines and to make sure they’re abiding by them.

I just read that Florida and Texas have locked down their bars again because of the huge spikes in their states.

That's welcomed news. It would have been great news if implemented earlier. Let's hope that this policy continues and that there are real consequences for those who put profit ahead of safety.

In addition to posting the pictures here, they must also be sent to the Mayor and every member on Council.

Also, you can find on the Cuyahoga County Health Department website a listing of all reported incidents of social distancing violations. There are several Lakewood establishments listed, Angelo's Pizza having the most reported incidents . . . .

Sorry for the misinformation - the list was found on Channel 8 website yesterday. It is an alphabetical listing. I got the information second-hand from someone who saw the listing yesterday.

Julie and I just returned from a trip to the West Side Market. The Market itself does a pretty good job of letting people in only as other people exit, but we were SICKENED by what we saw at Town Hall . . .the place was packed, tables were placed next to one another, the bar had no empty stools, and at least 20 people were standing in line next to one another, waiting for a table. There was absolutely no social distancing whatsoever! I know that this is one of Tony George's properties, and I know that he is suing the state about the guidelines, but how in the HELL does he get away with this? Why aren't the police or the Health Department there enforcing these regulations? And why doesn't the Governor pull their liquor license like he has threatened to do with other establishments in Columbus?

Oh, and I forgot to mention - we didn't see one person wearing a mask. The disregard for human life on display at Town Hall is absolutely disgusting.

That's a really long list, and it's already a week old. I wonder when the list is updated?

I read through the entire list, looking for violations occurring in Lakewood.

I found it a bit ironic to see Around The Corner had a violation for lack of social distancing.
Meanwhile, the owner's daughter-in-law was pictured (on a previous Deck post) with masks that she donates to the Mask Giving Tree near Blackbird Bakery.
