Old Business - 2019

Post by Mark Kindt »

A Very Short List

1. Ethics-In-Local Government Reform: Councilperson-At-Large Rader proposed legislation to improve ethics-in-government at the municipal level as well as as campaign finance reform. After the unmitigated disasters of the prior City Administration, this legislation or similar legislation still seems to be called for. I hope that we can see some movement on this by City Council in 2020.

2. Transparency In Appointments To Vacant City Council Seats: It seems reasonable to suggest that the relatively "informal" process for filing vacant seats on City Council could be improved to encourage both diversity and transparency. While I recognize that improvements were attempted and implemented in the last appointment process, the public might benefit from open voting on potential candidates by rounds. And by "open voting", I mean voting in public sessions of City Council, not within closed Executive Sessions.

I see both of these topics as basic process improvements in local government. I hope to see progress.
