SWAT and police cars from around the area lined up at City Hall.
Funny how this happens. Someone sends a photo of a SWAT truck getting off I-90 and asks what's up? Then another call from Lake Road, "I just saw two SWAT Trucks in Lakewood what is going on?" then a photo from a friend with "SWAT is busting someone at Lakewood Park do you want photos?" Finally a call that someone is worried about all the police cars. I have no idea, and figure party bust whatever.
Boy was I wrong!

Behind the vehicles the police are getting together for something...

... but they are hardly dressed to take down a bad man, or stop a riot, or a bank robbery.

Driving by I see they have one truck blocked from getting out, so I stop.

Then it hit me. I had stumbled into Investigator Pat Fiorelli's retirement surprise. Better than most occasions.

Pat in his SWAT outfit ready to get serious at a stand-off. Started in 1989 with 31 years on the force.
As Mayor George put it, "The turnout today was a testimony to the service of Pat Fiorelli. We were lucky to have someone of his ability and character serve on our police force for so many years. Thank you for your service."
With a wave, Pat heads off to more relaxing better life in retirement.

Applause and cameras follow his departure.
Pat, I could not be happier for you and your family. This retirement is well earned and deserved. You have always treated Lakewood and Lakewoodites with respect and love. Even in some very difficult conditions. Your knowledge and planning abilities have helped in ways most will never realize. And the attitude and work ethic you always had radiates in the Lakewood Police Department from the new kids right down to the inspectors, from the auxiliary and Parking Enforcement officers to the new recruits.
Thank you from all of Lakewood.
