So Ohio/Cuyahoga/Lakewood is just reaching the apex of this terrible virus and the governor has sided with the "president" about how the state should be open for business right away.

I had been proud of or our state's reaction to the pandemic to date, but there was a sudden change of direction last week that seems to embrace the virus-denying crowd. This is dangerous.

I'll wait to see how this plays out in the coming days, but if any of this runs counter to the interests of the residents of densely populated Lakewood, I would urge our elected leaders to invoke home rule to keep us safe.

The government can print money for a while longer but what will people buy? You just shut down the world economy.

Try to forget Trump Derangement Syndrome for a few weeks and focus your anger on the creator of this crisis: The Chinese Communist Party.

Crops will get planted, this end of the season is a pretty lonely lot for farmers. It the harvest where things get rougher.

Testing, would solve all of this back and forth.

Meanwhile reports come in that there is no medical data on anyone developing an immunity to the virus after getting. This would be the first corna virus they have ever been able to develop a vaccine for. and the good news, that even a mild bout with it could weaken you for the next bout of bout after that.

Farmers and farms are still working - they are essential businesses. Truckers are still hauling loads and goods are delivered. Grocers and pharmacies are open. Banks are open.

Restaurants are changing their model to take out but most are open

Most service companies and others have employees working at home.

The basics are open for business

Trump’s crying about sports. I don’t give a crap about sports, concerts or other entertainment. That can wait.

“Opening it up” now would create a a surge in cases and create greater negative economic impact. People will be too afraid to venture out again.

Time to stop this right now. Do what we have to do and get it over with. The economy will recover. There will be new opportunities for entrepreneurship

22 million Americans have lost their jobs in the last four weeks, with more on the way. If Lakewood follows the national average, then about 3,300 Lakewood residents have just lost their jobs (50,000/330,000,000 times 22,000,000). Given that most people don’t have any savings, that’s 3,300 more families that can’t afford Lakewood’s unusually high property taxes. Or the additional 4.9 mills still on the next ballot. Similarly, over 80,000 people have lost jobs in Cuyahoga County, and over 800,000 people have lost jobs in Ohio. So far….

Income taxes, sales taxes, capital gain taxes, payroll taxes, corporate taxes, gasoline taxes, lodging/ticket taxes and other “user fees” and even casino taxes are right now down what? 10%? 20%? Who knows, perhaps even more. Property taxes will follow. Commercial real estate is already a mess.

It is past time for all governmental entities to enact substantial reductions in their expense structures and the funds they command from taxpayers. The employment situation, which has thus far been confined to the private sector, is a train wreck. Absolutely unprecedented. The indifference boggles my mind….

I'm in total agreement.

Health is everything.

Without good health, one cannot work. Without good health, one cannot do anything.
Health should.... must..... come before anything else.

I'm already afraid to go 'out'.
The virus will continue to circulate from one person to the next, if things open up prematurely.

If people (around here) were really taking this Insidious Thing seriously and only going out for essentials, numbers would be going down, rather than going up.

In France, no one is allowed out without written permission that they are going out for either food or pharmacy. No walking. No bicycling. Children kept indoors.

Health must come before anything else.

I don't know what is going to happen tomorrow or the next day, but if a brief trip through Lakewood this evening is any indication, a lot of restaurants are expecting to reopen. I went out to get take out and saw a number of big "We are open signs" I guess in preparation for tomorrow. Bill if you are expecting farm workers to go back to work first, seems to me they will have to get in line. I'd agree that the farm workers are more essential but that doesn't seem to be the way this is playing out.

Here's where we are: the Covid 19 numbers are all increasing which tells me the chances of contagion right now have never been higher, and this is a lousy time to let up on a strategy that as far as I can tell has been working relative to the curve-flattening strategy. We need to stay the course. In a few more weeks, when the numbers start to plateau, that will be a time to consider reopening very judiciously businesses where social distancing can be maintained, and go from there. But as has been said, we need testing, testing and more testing, and then a readily available vaccine before "normal" can be expected, I'm hearing next year, but everyone will be happy if it is sooner.

A premature return to the old way of doing things will mean a rapid spread of the disease which will destroy the economy, social framework and nation way faster than any stay-at-home order could. It will also kill a lot of people.

I hope to see some good decisions this week. While I'd like to go back to restaurants, I'd be more comfortable waiting awhile longer.

With out food security, there is no security. This was the major reason we started what became LEAF. Food security. The original plan was to create contact and relationships with hundreds of farmers in the area. To develop community currency so that we could be financial relationship with the farmers. Of course plan after plan was hijacked by those that need a name on everything. Community currency became a Lakewood Money card, that went bankrupt early on hurting residents more than helping them. And LEAF relies on the same small group of food sources most "farmer's markets" in the area do.

Water and Food, everyone needs them. Take out, not so much. Though when speaking with City Hall before this started I did argue to keep restaurants open, as Lakewood with 2 stores would be overwhelmed.

With out water, without food there is no security.

I always refer to Victor Hugo's "Les Misearables" all over a stolen loaf of bread to feed a hungry family member.

Only o fool would open the state while cases are rising. As one Dr. on TV so aptly said, "You will know it is a plateau when you look back over a week or two and see it. It will not be from a forecast."

Fortunately, several major polling results show people overwhelmingly agree with the shutdowns and would prefer they continue so that the virus can be controlled.

People DO understand that a loosening of restrictions will result in several waves of viral resurgence and require more lockdowns. I think we all know we need to just get this over. We are already in place and coping. Let’s finish the job.

Seriously, I’m not going to eat at a restaurant for a long time. Even keeping tables 6’ apart will not protect you from catching the virus.

And honestly, restaurants operate on slim margins already. How will they make enough money to keep a dining area open when only able to serve 1/2 or 1/3 of capacity?

“Opening the economy” isn’t going to magically make things go back to normal and will only prolong our suffering.
