Fitzgerald Out as Magistrate?

Post by Bridget Conant »

Rumor in Middleburg Heights is that Ed Fitzgerald is no longer serving as a magistrate.

If you recall, his political appointment was met with laughter and disdain by many, prompting several anti-Fitz editorials.

FROM MAYOR MATTHEW J. CASTELLI
CITY OF MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS, OHIO

Ed Fitzgerald left the City of Middleburg Heights as its Magistrate at the end of August, 2019. We thank Ed for his service to the community. Effective September 1, 2019 Gregory Sponseller was appointed as Magistrate of Middleburg Heights Mayors Court. Magistrate Sponseller brings years of municipal experience previously serving as Law Director and Prosecutor in the Berea Muncipal Court system. Additionally, he currently serves as Magistrate in the Rocky River Municipal Court.

Frankly, I'm not concerned about Drivers Ed's work for other cities.
I'm concerned about his "consulting" gigs for real estate developers.

Is he currently working with any developers?
More importantly, is he working with any firms that might have business with the City of Lakewood over the next four years?

Wow, the Fugs. I haven't heard them in a long time.

File under small worlds.

Ed Sanders one of the founders of The Fugs, was a longtime friend and collaborator with the late Kenneth Warren of Lakewood Public Library fame, right up to his death.

PS - This Ed thing was largely a political transfer. It is my understanding that when Mayor Matthew J. Castelli came in, much of the previous Mayor's staff was kept on for continuity knowing they could be replaced over the coming months.

Carry on.
