2 Car Roll Over Madison/Warren Dummy Cut Out Of Car

Post by Jim O'Bryan »

Yes you read that correctly but...

... the rollovers were in the Fire Department's back lot, and...

... the dummy cut from the cars was a real dummy!

Lakewood Fire Department, never stops training and learning, and on 9-24-2019 LFD had Gary Claus, one of the best in the business stop by and look at various ways to save lives while cutting accident victims out of their cars.

One scenario had the driver's arm trapped under the car. Firefighters had to stabilize the car and the patient.

Cut out the windshield.

Cut off the roof properly and peel it back.

Between saving dummies, Lakewood Fire Fighters re-hydrate on w hot humid day, they go back to training.

Gary Claus from Genesis explains the best way to use Jaws of Life.

On the third example Gary pointed out that it is far easier and faster to cut both doors out at the same time.

Asst Fire Chief Darren Collins looks on as his crew works with Gary Claus on the third car.

Thank you to the Lakewood Fire Department, Asst. Fire Chief Darren Collins, and Genesis equipment for a great afternoon.

In a city with a top speed limit of 35 mph, we would be better served it the fire dept made inspections of business for fire code violations. Like fire doors marked with burn out exit light over a door that opened inwards.

Lakewood Fire and Safety can actually walk and chew gum at the same time. I have witnessed it.

Go back and do a search for roll over on the Deck, you will see most of them happen at 40mph or less in Lakewood. Combinations of curbs, poles, center of gravity, leverage, etc.

While spending the better part of an afternoon with firefighters coming and going, I witness at least 4 discussions with Gary and Luke, that paid huge dividends in the future, especially when it comes to saving lives and time mattering. The cars were donated, towed in for FREE by Kuffner Towing.

I have had the pleasure of watching first hand as Lakewood Police and Fire train to go into burning buildings, drug houses, stand off situations, school situations, medical situations, fires, accidents and even frozen freezing water to train and keep sharp.

AND, believe it or not I have been with them citing buildings, finding problems and helping owners rethink them and raise money for charity!!!

All around I think we have a great group of first responders and a system that brings in good talent, and promotes it through the ranks.
